Backstrom gave up three goals on 14 shots in relief of Darcy Kuemper Saturday against Dallas.
While Kuemper will get credit for the loss, Backstrom has struggled lately, giving up 12 goals in his last four appearances. With only one win his his last four starts, the 36-year-old's lackluster play combined with Kuemper's inconsistency have many wondering whether the Wild might pursue another goalie sometime in the near-future. Backstrom is 5-3-3 on the season with a .896 save percentage and 2.71 GAA. While he won't see much action behind Kuemper, the veteran isn't even a good spot start when he does get the call. There are likely better options out there.

Backstrom (illness) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Backstrom was able to get in a practice Tuesday, and seemed healthy enough for the Wild to bring him along for the trip to Columbus. He'll serve as the backup to Darcy Kuemper for Wednesday's game, but figures to make his next start over the weekend during the Wild's back-to-back set. John Curry was reassigned to AHL Iowa in a corresponding move.

Backstrom (illness) reported improvement Tuesday and is ready to resume practicing, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
It hasn't been decided yet if Backstrom will travel with the team to Columbus for Wednesday's game, but if that's the case, it would likely be just to observe him skating rather than using him as the backup for that night's game. The Wild figure to give Backstrom until the weekend to get back on the ice and regain some injury following his battle with the stomach bug.

The illness that has resulted in Backstrom's placement on injured reserve is a stomach virus, the Associated Press reports.
Backstrom previously battled a stomach illness less than two weeks earlier, but it didn't end up costing him any time. However, it appears the latest bug he's dealing with is a little more problematic, as he didn't travel with the Wild to Winnipeg for Monday's game. He'll be eligible to return to action Wednesday in Columbus, but it's not known if he's made enough progress with his recovery to be available for the Wild.

Backstrom (illness) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
With Backstrom still under the weather, the Wild went ahead and brought John Curry up to provide some short-term depth behind Darcy Kuemper. Backstrom will be eligible to return Monday against Winnipeg, but it's uncertain if he'll be ready by that time.

Backstrom is missing Tuesday's game against the Flyers due to the flu, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
It's Backstrom's second tango with the flu in as many weeks, as it was a stomach bug that jeopardized his availability to play last Wednesday. He ended up being able to suit up for that contest, but wasn't so fortunate this time around, as Darcy Kuemper was granted the start after Backstrom fell ill during the afternoon. The Wild haven't relayed what kind of bug Backstrom is dealing with this time around, but given that five Wild defensemen have already been hit with the mumps this season, that virus is always a concern whenever one of the team's players is being afflicted by some type of illness.

Backstrom, who was confirmed as the starter in goal for Tuesday's game against the Flyers following the team's morning skate, will be unavailable for the game due to an undisclosed issue, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Darcy Kuemper will instead make the start for the Wild in an interesting reversal, as it was Backstrom who was announced as the late starter for the Wild just one week earlier when an illness kept Kuemper unavailable for a game against the Blackhawks. Backstrom had played through that game sick himself, and it's possible he may have picked up another illness over the afternoon yet again. John Curry was recalled on an emergency basis to act as Kuemper's backup for the time being, but expect the Wild to provide word on Backstrom's condition after the game.

Backstrom will start in goal when the Wild take on the Flyers on Tuesday night.
As expected, Backstrom will get the starting nod on Tuesday against the Flyers. Backstrom is 5-3-3 on the season with a .901 save percentage and 2.58 GAA, and will remain a relatively low-upside, but high floor fantasy option on Tuesday against the Flyers.

Backstrom is expected to start in goal when the Wild take on the Flyers on Tuesday night, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Due to Darcy Kuemper's recent struggles between the pipes, Minnesota has decided to lean on Backstrom a little more heavily. Backstrom is 5-3-3 on the season with a .901 save percentage and 2.58 GAA, and will remain a relatively low-upside, but high floor fantasy option on Tuesday against the Flyers.

Backstrom stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced in relief of Darcy Kuemper in Saturday's overtime loss to the Predators.
Not a bad outing for Backstrom, who is now 5-3-3 on the season with a .901 save percentage and 2.58 GAA. Considering the recent struggles of Kuemper, it's possible Backstrom could see some more starts in the near-future. The 36-year-old makes for a decent fantasy option whenever he gets the call in the crease.
