Backstrom gave up three goals on 14 shots in relief of Darcy Kuemper Saturday against Dallas. While Kuemper will get credit for the loss, Backstrom has struggled lately, giving up 12 goals in his last four appearances. With only one win his his last four starts, the 36-year-old's lackluster play combined with Kuemper's inconsistency have many wondering whether the Wild might pursue another goalie sometime in the near-future. Backstrom is 5-3-3 on the season with a .896 save percentage and 2.71 GAA. While he won't see much action behind Kuemper, the veteran isn't even a good spot start when he does get the call. There are likely better options out there.
