Michal Neuvirth made 31 saves to lift the Washington Capitals to a 3-0 victory over the Canadiens in Montreal on Wednesday night.
Neuvirth, who made his first start in 11 games, recorded his sixth National Hockey League shutout. It was his second shutout of the season. He had his first on Dec. 15, a 1-0 triumph over the Winnipeg Jets. Tomas Vokoun is the Caps' first-string goalie but look for Neuvirth to get more playing time after his sparkling performance in Montreal.

Michal Neuvirth will get the nod for Washington on Wednesday against Montreal.
With the Capitals playing their third game in four nights it makes sense to give Tomas Vokoun a night off, especially since he has played the last 10 contests. Neuvirth's last start came on Dec. 26.

Michal Neuvirth will start in his fifth consecutive game on Monday.
Neuvirth has allowed just six goals over four games during that span, although that does include the three goals on 28 shots he surrendered during Washington's 4-3 shootout loss on Friday. Neuvirth and Tomas Vokoun have combined for an ugly 2.92 GAA and .901 save percentage this season.

Michael Neuvirth stopped 25 of 28 shots in regulation but allowed two goals in the shootout as he and the Washington Capitals took a 4-3 loss against the Devils in New Jersey Friday night.
Neuvirth started his fourth consecutive game as new Washington coach Dale Hunter appears to be favoring the goalie as his first-stringer.

Michal Neuvirth will get the nod for Washington again on Friday.
He will face the New Jersey Devils in his fourth straight start. "I just basically judge game to game," said coach Dale Hunter. "You have to watch if it's a lot of games in a row, but Michal's going to be judged how he plays tomorrow and we'll decide who plays in Buffalo after that." Neuvirth has turned his game around during Hunter's tenure behind the bench with a .927 save percentage in five starts and one relief outing.

Neuvirth has started three consecutive games for the Caps and since he has performed rather admirably he should be expected to start in Washington's next outing.

Michal Neuvirth allowed two goals in the Washington Capitals' 2-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.
Neuvirth was really fighting the puck in this game but was pretty solid in net, beyond the fluke fluttering goal at the blueline from Cody McLeod and a slapshot from Erik Johnson with all kinds of traffic in front. He has allowed two goals in his last two games after a 26-save shutout against the Winnipeg Jets. Tomas Vokoun has been a bit leaky in net lately, and if the Caps really want to see if the 23-year-old can take the reigns between the pipes, they need to run with him for a while. He has a 4-6-1 record and an improving 3.27 goals-against average and .889 save percentage on the year.
