Neuvirth has been released from his professional tryout, reports TSN.ca.

EDGE Analysis

He saw just two periods of preseason action due to an unspecified injury. It's not clear if the 31-year-old Neuvirth will catch on with another NHL team or find his way to the AHL.

The Maple Leafs released Neuvirth from his professional tryout agreement Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

This news doesn't come as a surprise, as the oft-injured Neuvirth wasn't even able to get through Toronto's training camp without missing time due to an undisclosed issue, so there was no way that the Maple Leafs could trust him as their backup heading into the 2019-20 campaign. The 31-year-old will likely have to head overseas to continue his playing career.

Neuvirth was not on the ice Monday and did not make the trip to Montreal, reports the Toronto Sun.

EDGE Analysis

Neuvirth has already missed time last week due to an undisclosed ailment. All coach Mike Babcock would say post-practice Monday was, "Neuvy was not feeling up to it so he's not going today." The goaltender has a history of injuries, so this unknown ailment looks to be muddying the picture for the Leafs' backup role. Michael Hutchinson may have the inside track, but has been wobbly so far in the preseason (five goals on 34 shots).

Neuvirth (lower body) will start between the pipes in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo, Mark Masters of TSN.ca reports.

EDGE Analysis

Neuvirth is expected to play two periods before being relieved by his backup. The 31-year-old, who's attending Toronto's training camp on a PTO, is still considered a longshot to make the Maple Leafs' Opening Night roster.

Neuvirth (lower body) will join Toronto on a professional tryout for training camp, Bill Meltzer of NHL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Neuvirth dealt with a lower-body issue for much of the 2018-19 campaign, which is likely why the team is hesitant to sign him outright. The club does have both Michael Hutchinson and Garret Sparks as backup options for Frederik Andersen, but Neuvirth would provide a more veteran presence.

Neuvirth went 1-4-1 with a 4.27 GAA and .859 save percentage during seven appearances, including six starts, during the 2018-19 season.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran netminder dealt with multiple injuries and as a result, he barely played this past season. Neuvirth didn't make his season debut until Oct. 27 because of offseason hip surgery, but then after that loss, he didn't play again for six weeks due to an undisclosed ailment. Over the next month, he appeared in six games and then ended up on IR by the middle of January. Neuvirth will be a free agent this summer and will probably be in search of a new home.

Neuvirth (lower body) is progressing in his rehab and has a follow-up appointment scheduled with the doctor this Friday.

EDGE Analysis

Neuvirth has been sidelined since Jan. 3 with the lower-body issue, leaving the primary duties to Carter Hart (ankle) between the pipes. The Flyers have a backlog of goalies to choose from when Neuvirth and Hart return, which could put Neuvirth in a vulnerable spot in terms of his roster spot.

Although Neuvirth (lower body) remains without a timetable for his return, the Flyers hope he'll be able to resume skating late next week.

EDGE Analysis

Neuvirth has been dealing with various injuries for most of the 2018-19 campaign, so the Flyers are undoubtedly going to proceed with extreme caution this time around to ensure he's fully healthy before returning to game action. The 30-year-old netminder should still be considered out indefinitely at this point, but a more clear-cut timetable for his recovery should be established once he's able to return to practice with his teammates.

Neuvirth (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, with the move retroactive to Jan. 3, Dave Isaac of the Courier Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Since the Flyers backdated Neuvirth's IR transaction, he can be removed from that list at any time. Still, rookie netminder Carter Hart will post up between the pipes against the Devils on Saturday afternoon with Mike McKenna available in a backup role.

Neuvirth (lower body) will be out of action versus St. Louis on Monday, per Adam Kimelman of NHL.com.

EDGE Analysis

Neuvirth once again is dealing with an injury, which figures to see Carter Hart and Mike McKenna split the upcoming back-to-back against the Blues and Capitals on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. When Neuvirth might be ready to return remains to be seen, but even once healthy, the veteran could struggle to earn minutes given his poor performances this season (a 1-4-1 record and 4.26 GAA in seven outings).
