However, it's safe to say that neither guy is exactly running away with the job right now. Next on tap for the Flyers are back-to-back games Wednesday and Thursday against the Red Wings and Islanders, respectively. At present, we expect Neuvirth to be between the pipes for at least one of those games.

He was considered by many to have an upper hand over Steve Mason in the Flyers crease heading into the season, but the tone is changing relatively quickly now that he's given up seven goals on just 33 shots in his last two appearances. Mason hasn't exactly been otherworldly himself with a 2.77 GAA and .901 save percentage, but he's now appeared in six straight games and will likely be afforded extra rope as long as Neuvirth is struggling.

Neuvirth will be the starting goalie when the Flyers take on the Sabres Tuesday, John Boruk of CSN Philly reports.

Neuvy had a very rough time in his last outing, allowing four goals on only 16 shots before being pulled in the second period against Chicago. The goalie play in Philadelphia has been mediocre to say the least this season as Steve Mason has not looked especially sharp either. Neuvirth will look to turn it around Tuesday against a Buffalo squad missing Jack Eichel (ankle) and Evander Kane (ribs).

Neuvirth was chased from Tuesday's road game against the Blackhawks, saving only 12 of 16 shots in 25:04 between the pipes. However, Steve Mason, his replacement, took the loss.

EDGE Analysis

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol saw enough from Neuvirth after he allowed his fourth goal, which counted as Marian Hossa's 500th career tally. But considering Mason coughed up two goals of his own on only 11 shots, it's hard to envision either netminder running away with the No. 1 job in Philly. Instead, expect a fairly even timeshare between Mason and Neuvy this season.
