Jacob Markstrom could get the starting gig Monday night against the Devils. Markstrom was called up from San Antonio of the AHL on Friday and was Jose Theodore's backup last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Markstrom went 2-2-1 with a .944 save percentage and a 2.05 GAA before being sent to San Antonio. "Jacob has done a really good job since being up and I like keeping my options. We'll play it from there on Monday," said head coach Kevin Dineen.

Jacob Markstrom has been called up with the Florida Panthers. Markstrom is expected to serve as Jose Theodore's understudy on Saturday because Scott Clemmensen is unavailable. Officially, Clemmensen is dealing with soreness, but there are rumors floating around that he's been shopped. If the Panthers did think that Clemmensen was on the verge of being traded, they would keep him from playing to prevent an injury. If that does happen, Markstrom would earn a permanent spot on the Panthers roster. Markstrom had a 2.05 GAA and .940 save percentage in five games during Clemmensen's absence earlier this season.

Jacob Markstrom had a less than stellar game for the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He gave up four goals on 28 shots during a 5-2 defeat. Markstrom only gave up that many goals once in his brief NHL stint. While he is still goalie of the future in Florida you cannot argue with success right now.

On paper, it would be pretty surprising to see Markstrom get demoted after he pushed Jose Theodore for starts in Clemmensen's absence. It could be a simple matter of economics and roster management, though, as Clemmensen and Theodore are the ones with one-way deals. The official announcement is expected to be made tonight, according to George Richards.

Clemmensen will be ready to return soon, but Markstrom might have stolen his job by posting a 2.05 GAA and .944 save percentage in five games. Florida might temporarily carry three goaltenders, but that isn't likely to last long. Markstrom is young and needs to play, so a three-goaltender setup probably wouldn't be in his best interests. The Panthers might be able to solve the longjam by making a trade and we wouldn't rule out the possibility that Florida might simply send Clemmensen or Markstrom to the minors.

Jacob Markstrom allowed two goals on 33 shots in Florida's 3-2 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night. Markstrom is having a nice season with the Panthers and could be an interesting spot starter in favorable matchups for those in daily transaction leagues.

Jacob Markstrom may get the call with Scott Clemmensen healthy again and on a conditioning stint in the minors. He could use some extra time to help the Panthers better assess their goaltending situation. Jose Theodore has started the past two contests.

Jose Theodore is not yet 100%, therefore look for Jacob Markstrom in goal Saturday. Markstrom has been sensational this season in the early going. Once Theodore is back, expect a time share.

Jacob Markstrom allowed four goals on 38 shots in the Florida's 4-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators Thursday night. Markstrom's like a Transformer. We're not sure if he's human or if he's part alien but one thing is for sure, he was again incredible tonight in the loss against the Sens. Markstrom was a nice spot starter tonight and it's too bad he could not reward his fantasy owners with a win.
