Jacob Markstrom impressed the Panthers' coaching staff by holding off the New York Islanders' third period assault for his first NHL win on Saturday. Florida's "goalie of the future" is looking pretty good in the present. Just ask head coach Kevin Dineen, who put it simply when he said "This kid can play." The franchise probably still has Jose Theodore penciled in for the starting role, but with Scott Clemmensen on the shelf, Markstrom has the chance to keep pushing for more time. Markstrom is worth looking at in deep keeper leagues, if nothing else, but keep an eye on him either way.

"It was a good battle to try to earn that roster spot. At the end of it, it was performance based," coach Kevin Dineen said. "It wasn't potential based for me. We're not here to sell the future. Guys who perform well on ice are going to earn their way into the lineup and that's the way the situation played out." Markstrom is highly regarded as a strong goaltending prospect, but he struggled last year in the AHL with Rochester.
