The Florida Panthers will continue to ride the hot hand of Jacob Markstrom when they face the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. It sounds like Florida coach Kevin Dineen might be leaning towards starting rookie Jacob Markstrom against Ottawa on Thursday night. "I've given it a lot of thought, that's something that coaches love, you have to make hard decisions based on guys playing well," said Dineen on Tuesday. "That's what I'm excited about." Jose Theodore is presumed to be healthy enough to play again after his core injury, but Markstrom has been great in his last two appearances in the Panthers' crease while earning a pair of victories. Stay tuned for updates.

Jacob Markstrom was the first star tonight in Montreal in the Florida's 2-1 victory over the Canadiens Monday. Markstrom got the nod for Florida in Montreal tonight as Jose Theodore is still battling an injury and made the most of it. Florida's "goalie of the future" allowed only one goal on 41 shots and looked great all night. For those of you in daily transaction leagues that took a gamble and started Markstrom, good job.

Jacob Markstrom may get the nod for Florida in Montreal on Monday night. Jose Theodore left Saturday's game after two periods Saturday because of a core injury and his status is unclear at this time. Markstrom picked up his first victory versus the Islanders in relief by stopping 18 shots he faced. Stay tuned.

Jacob Markstrom impressed the Panthers' coaching staff by holding off the New York Islanders' third period assault for his first NHL win on Saturday. Florida's "goalie of the future" is looking pretty good in the present. Just ask head coach Kevin Dineen, who put it simply when he said "This kid can play." The franchise probably still has Jose Theodore penciled in for the starting role, but with Scott Clemmensen on the shelf, Markstrom has the chance to keep pushing for more time. Markstrom is worth looking at in deep keeper leagues, if nothing else, but keep an eye on him either way.

Jacob Markstrom picked up the first win of his career on Saturday. Markstrom made 18 saves on 20 shots as Florida beat the Islanders. The win was the first of Markstrom's career. Deemed the goalie of the future, the future may be now. Congratulations to Markstrom and the Florida Panthers.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 31 of 33 shots in his first start of the season Tuesday, but the Panthers were shut out by Washington by a score of 3-0. Markstrom is serving as the backup to Jose Theodore while Scott Clemmensen rehabs from a knee injury, but is likely to be returned to the minors once Clemmensen returns. Once the Panthers are ready to hand over the keys to Markstrom, neither of the other goaltenders on their roster should be much competition.

Jacob Markstrom may get the nod on Monday when the Panthers play in Tampa Bay against the Lightning. He is expected to start on Monday or Tuesday, but coach Kevin Dineen remarked that it might be nice for Jose Theodore to face his former Washington teammates on Tuesday night. It would mark Markstrom's first career NHL start if gets the call and with his parents in town from Sweden it would be even more special for him. Stay tuned for updates.

Jacob Markstrom will get his first career NHL start on either Monday or Tuesday. Both opponents are scary but Markstrom is set to show the world what he has got. Monday's game is against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tuesday is against the Washington Capitals. He looks to be a shaky start for either game if you actually own him.

Jacob Markstrom will start the 2011-12 season as Florida's number two netminder. He beat out Tyler Plante for the position after Scott Clemmensen went down with a knee injury. "It was a good battle to try to earn that roster spot. At the end of it, it was performance based," coach Kevin Dineen said. "It wasn't potential based for me. We're not here to sell the future. Guys who perform well on ice are going to earn their way into the lineup and that's the way the situation played out." Markstrom is highly regarded as a strong goaltending prospect, but he struggled last year in the AHL with Rochester.
