Jacob Markstrom is the AHL's player of the week. Markstrom won all four of his starts last week while turning aside 130 of 137 shots. Right now he appears to be the Panthers' goaltender of the future, but the Panthers might end up trading for Vancouver's Roberto Luongo once the lockout ends. If that happens then Markstrom's future with the Panthers will become a lot more blurry.

Jacob Markstrom was the difference-maker for the San Antonio Rampage on Wednesday night, as the team beat the Abbotsford Heat 3-2 in overtime. Markstrom helped San Antonio win despite Abbotsford firing twice as many shots on net (34-17). Markstrom has been struggling for much of the season, but this was a nice win for the big goalie, especially against headline-grabber Barry Brust.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 32 of 34 shots in the San Antonio Rampage's 3-2 overtime victory over the Abbotsford Heat on Tuesday evening. Markstrom is beginning to turn it around after a shaky start to the season. He has reeled off three straight wins after losing five consecutive in November. The 22-year-old netminder has a 2.92 GAA and .906 save percentage in 12 contests.

Jacob Markstrom turned aside 29 of 31 shots in the San Antonio Rampage's 4-2 victory over the Rochester Americans Wednesday night. Markstrom snapped his five-game losing streak. He got off to a rocky start this season and currently has a 3.10 GAA and .896 save percentage in 10 AHL contests.

Jacob Markstrom put forth a valiant effort Saturday night, stopping 30 of 32 shots against Abbotsford, but the Rampage still lost in a shootout. Markstrom is now winless in five straight games in what has been a very slow start to the season. He's 2-6 with a 3.22 GAA and .892 save percentage.

Florida Panthers assistant GM Mike Santos isn't concerned by Jacob Markstrom's poor start to the 2012-13 AHL season. "It's the AHL; it's a good league," Santos said. "I went through this with Pekka Rinne in Nashville where we thought he was ready in Year 4 and it took til Year 5. Goalies develop a little bit later and he needs that time in net. I'm not worried about it. We're going to be patient, he's only 22 years old. Most of these goalies don't really hit their stride until their mid- to late 20s." Markstrom has posted a 2-5-0 record with a 3.61 GAA and an .881 save percentage in seven games. His struggles have resulted in him sharing the crease with veteran Dov Grumet-Morris. Markstrom had some great performances, while suiting up in seven games with the Panthers last season, and he's still looked at as the team's goaltender of the future.

Jacob Markstrom is off to a mediocre start in the AHL with the Panthers' affiliate in San Antonio. He has a 2-2 record with a 3.52 goals against average and a .879 save percentage. Florida will be hoping for better numbers going forward for their goalie of the future.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 of 32 shots to lead San Antonio to a 3-2 win over Houston. Markstrom is highly regarded and is thought to be the Panthers goalie of the future but that could change if Florida deals for Roberto Luongo. Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker were the only Aeros to beat Markstrom while Mikael Granlund added an assist.

Panthers assistant GM Mike Santos wants prospect goaltender Jacob Markstrom to play one more full season in the AHL with San Antonio. His past two years in the minors have been limited due to knee injuries, so he would benefit from a full and healthy campaign as a starter. Jose Theodore is under contract for the 2012-13 season and there's a chance that Scott Clemmensen, who is eligible for unrestricted free agency, will be brought back as well.

Jacob Markstrom has been returned to the minors by Florida. The Panthers' AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, is locked in a 2-2 tie in their first-round playoff series against Chicago. Markstrom's addition to the lineup could help the team in Game 5's deciding match of the best-of-five series on Friday night. He was called up when Jose Theodore was unavailable to play in Game 6 due to injury, but Theodore will return for Game 7.
