Matt Schaub (shoulder) returned to practice Thursday, as expected.
"He looked good," confirmed coach Gary Kubiak. "Looks like he's going to be OK." Schaub is taking a sore throwing shoulder into a matchup against a dominant Ravens defense that has had two weeks to prepare. He's not a QB1 option this week.

Matt Schaub (thigh, shoulder) was held out of Texans practice Wednesday.
Coach Gary Kubiak described Schaub's injuries as "soreness." He's expected to play in Week 6 against a Ravens defense that ranks eighth against the pass.

The Texans are characterizing Matt Schaub as day to day with a sore shoulder and a bruised thigh.
We suppose it's better than a knee sprain. Schaub wound up with a season-high 51 pass attempts in Week 5, far more than the Texans were targeting entering the game. He took a ton of hits, so it's no surprise that Schaub came out of the contest banged up. Schaub figures to play against the Ravens in Week 6.

Matt Schaub insisted that his knee wasn't an issue Sunday when he chose not to try to run for a touchdown on the game's final play.
Schaub took a shot to the knee on a near sack a couple plays before. "The adrenalin's going in the heat of the battle," Schaub said. "My mobility wasn't an issue." He likely sustained a bruise that will cause some discomfort this week, but his availability for next week's game against the Ravens isn't in doubt.

Matt Schaub completed 14 of 21 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown in Houston's Week 4 win over Pittsburgh, 17-10.
Schaub started out slinging the ball, but this one become the Arian Foster show after Ben Tate and Andre Johnson went down with injuries in the first half. Houston is a completely different ball club with Johnson sidelined, so it will be hard to judge Schaub's Week 5 outlook against Oakland until we get an injury update. As things stand, look for Houston to keep the ball almost exclusively on the ground against the Raiders.

Matt Schaub completed 22-of-39 passes for 373 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception as the Texans fell to the Saints in Week 3.
It was Schaub's best game of the year. The Texans did a terrific job of scheming to get Andre Johnson open, and the first half was filled with Schaub-to-A.J. completions in the intermediate and deep game. Schaub couldn't get it done after Houston made itself one dimensional by abandoning the run in the final two quarters, however. He'll be a low-end QB1 play in Week 4 against Pittsburgh.

Matt Schaub completed 21-of-29 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns against the Dolphins in Week 2.
Schaub floated a pass over the head of an open Owen Daniels early in the game, but came back to Daniels for a 4-yard TD in the second quarter. Excelling out of the play-action with a strong ground game, Schaub capped off his afternoon with a 23-yard scoring strike to Andre Johnson. No longer a top-10 fantasy QB in a balanced offensive attack, Schaub is just a borderline starter against the Saints next week.

Matt Schaub completed 16-of-24 passes for 180 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Texans' third preseason game.
Schaub's first pass was picked and returned 13 yards for a touchdown by 49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks, but he showed veteran savvy by returning to lead a scoring drive on the very next possession. So far this preseason, Schaub is 30-of-45 for 363 yards and the one touchdown. Schaub's fantasy ceiling is limited by a Texans offense that will continue to skew more toward the run, but he's been in sync with Andre Johnson and is worth low-end QB1 consideration.

The Texans have canceled their annual preseason practices with the Saints.
The practices would have taken place just before the Texans' August 20 preseason game. "Sean (Payton) and I really wanted to do it, but we've got so much to make up, we thought it would be better to ... pick it back up next year," coach Gary Kubiak said. "It was a mutual decision." The Texans and Saints have been practicing in the preseason for the last three years.
