Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said Monday that Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) will likely be placed on the disabled list.
Chen left Sunday's start with a right oblique strain and will need some rest before he resumes throwing. Steve Johnson or Jair Jurrjens are the most likely candidates to replace him in the starting rotation. The injury is a tough blow for the Orioles, as Chen owns a quality 3.04 ERA in 47 innings across eight starts this season.

Wei-Yin Chen went 6 1/3 innings allowing just two runs but took a no-decision against the Royals on Tuesday.
The bullpen blew Chen's victory as the Orioles went on to win anyway, but it doesn't take away from the left-hander's good start. Chen scattered nine hits in the effort, striking out two. He doesn't offer much upside from a fantasy perspective, but he's good for a useful ERA and a few strikeouts per game. He'll next take the mound Sunday against the Twins.

Wei-Yin Chen was tagged for five runs in four innings by the Mariners in a loss Wednesday.
The outing matched Chen's shortest in his previous 37 big-league starts. This was supposed to be a bit of a break for him after a tough April schedule (road starts against the Rays, Red Sox, Yankees and A's, home against the Dodgers), but the Mariners are swinging better of late and they kept it going tonight. Chen is now 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA.

Wei-Yin Chen evened his record at 2-2 by shutting out the A's for eight innings on Friday.
It was a scoreless game for six innings before the Orioles came up with an unearned run off Tommy Milone in the seventh. They went on to add two insurances runs in the ninth and win 3-0. If Chen had just gotten one more out in his season debut, he'd be 5-for-5 in quality starts right now. His ERA stands at 2.53.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed three runs over six innings in Sunday night's loss to the Yankees.
Chen has a nine-game winless streak going back to last year, and continues to give up way to many home runs to be effective. He managed just two strikeouts in the loss and was pulled after 92 pitches. Chen will look to get his first win of the season this weekend in an interleague matchup with the Dodgers.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in Monday's loss to the Red Sox.
Chen was on cruise control for most of the game, but lost it all on a three-run shot to Daniel Nava in the seventh inning to earn the loss. It's nothing new for Chen, as he was tied for ninth in the majors with 29 home runs allowed in 2012. He'll look to get back on track in his next start against the Yankees.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed only two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday but took the no-decision in the Orioles' loss to the Rays.
It was a tough fate for Chen, who pitched well enough to earn the win. The 27-year-old allowed seven hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out four. He won 12 games and registered a 4.02 ERA in his first season with the Orioles and should carry value in AL-only fantasy leagues again in 2013.

Wei-Yin Chen was pounded for seven runs -- six earned -- in 3 1/3 innings by the Phillies on Saturday.
Chase Utley and Ryan Howard went back-to-back off Chen in the first, and Utley added a second homer in the fourth before Chen was pulled. Chen had been getting most of his work in minor league games, as the Orioles didn't want him taking on as much of a workload as some of their other starters. He's a decent bet as a third or fourth starter in AL-only leagues.

Wei-Yin Chen racked up four strikeouts while allowing just one run on one hit over 2 1/3 innings in Friday's victory over the Pirates.
Chen also walked two in the game, and needed 54 pitches to get through his seven outs. His velocity and command both appeared to be in line with his 2012 season. His biggest concern for this season will be durability, as he wore down noticeably in the second half of 2012.
