CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have "checked in" on Mike Pelfrey.
The Yankees could use another starter, but it's debatable whether Pelfrey would be an improvement after he posted a 5.19 ERA across 29 starts this past season. The Twins offered the right-hander a two-year, $10 million deal earlier this offseason, though that might have been pulled after they signed Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes.

La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins might still try to re-sign Mike Pelfrey even after the signings of Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes.
Neal notes that the club recently offered Pelfrey a two-year, $10 million deal to stick around, though it's uncertain if that is still on the table. Pelfrey posted a 5.19 ERA across 29 starts for the Twins this past season, but the club must believe he'll improve as he's another year removed from Tommy John surgery.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Twins have offered a multi-year contract to Mike Pelfrey.
The two sides still differ on the dollars involved, so nothing appears to be imminent. Pelfrey returned from Tommy John surgery this year and posted a 5.19 ERA and 101/53 K/BB ratio over 152 2/3 innings with Minnesota. The Twins are determined to upgrade their rotation this winter and have been connected to nearly every pitcher on the market, including Ricky Nolasco, Bronson Arroyo, Matt Garza, Phil Hughes, and Scott Feldman. They have also checked in on Ervin Santana and Ubaldo Jimenez, though the bidding on each pitcher figures to go rise above where they are willing to go.

Mike Pelfrey's agent, Scott Boras, said Wednesday that his client has been offered a multi-year contract.
Pelfrey made his way back from Tommy John surgery this past season and posted a 5.19 ERA and 101/53 K/BB ratio over 152 2/3 innings with the Twins. While the numbers weren't overly impressive, Boras said he is drawing interest from a "variety of teams."

A team insider told ESPN New York's Adam Rubin that the Mets are open to a reunion with Mike Pelfrey.
But it doesn't sound like there is going to be an aggressive pursuit of the 29-year-old right-hander, who posted a 5.19 ERA in 152 2/3 innings for the Twins in 2013. "I know he is on a long list of guys just like him," the source told ESPN New York on Monday.

Mike Pelfrey allowed three runs in just 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox on Tuesday.
Maybe the only bright spot from the start was Pelfrey's six strikeouts. The right-hander gave up nine hits and a walk, needing 96 pitches to get through 4 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Tigers next week.

Mike Pelfrey allowed six runs -- five earned -- over six innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.
When the first batter of the game reaches on an error and comes around to score, like Jose Reyes did leading off on Friday, it's probably not your night. Pelfrey wasn't awful, as he allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out seven, but he was done in by a five-run third inning. He fell to 5-11 on the season, and he'll face the A's on Wednesday.

Mike Pelfrey's velocity continues to improve.
Pelfrey underwent Tommy John surgery on May 1, 2012. "I didn't know he could throw 95 [miles per hour]," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "I thought he'd settle in at 91, 92. I didn't know he could get to 95." Pelfrey twice hit 96 on the radar Saturday against the Rangers, and several of his fastballs sat at 95. The impending free agent has posted a 3.45 ERA over 11 starts since the beginning of July.
