Boyd (0-1) battled through 5.1 innings against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. He allowed just one run (a solo-homer) on three hits while walking five, striking out five and not factoring in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
It was an admirable start for the left-hander against his old team (Boyd was part of last season's David Price deal between the Tigers and Jays) as he held the Birds hitless for four innings before Kevin Pillar homered to lead off the fifth. The five walks were a bit of a surprise considering he only had allowed a total of four free passes through his first three starts (16 innings). Boyd's high strand rate (78.3 percent) suggests that his 3.38 ERA is skating on thin ice. He's scheduled to toe the rubber again Monday on the road against the White Sox.

Boyd tossed 6.1 innings during Thursday's loss against Yankees, and allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while fanning three.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd got off to a good start in this game retiring the first 15 batters he faced, but he couldn't escape the seventh inning in which he allowed four runs. The 25-year-old lefty threw his longest outing of the season, but he also conceded a season-high mark in runs. The Tigers haven't announced if Boyd will remain in the rotation, and the spot for Tuesday against the Blue Jays currently lists a TBD.

EDGE Analysis
Boyd has pitched 48 innings for Toledo this season, sporting a 2.06 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP while holding opposing batters to a .232 average. The 25-year-old earned an appearance with the Tigers earlier this season, tossing 4.2 shutout innings against the Indians in April. During Boyd's brief major-league career with the Blue Jays and the Tigers, he holds a 1-6 record with a 6.97 ERA during 62 innings of work. A corresponding move will be announced prior to Saturday's game.

Boyd struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed two runs on six hits over six innings on Friday at Lehigh Valley.
EDGE Analysis
He's 1-3 on the season with a 2.06 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in eight starts at Triple-A. Boyd has a four-pitch repertoire and will likely pitch in the Tiger's rotation in 2017, if not before.

Boyd was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Sunday's 6-3 loss to Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Boyd held the Indians scoreless over the final 4.2 innings of Sunday's game. He'll need a few days off after throwing 69 pitches, but it won't be surprising if he's called back up within the next couple weeks.

EDGE Analysis

Boyd was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd posted a strong spring while competing for the fifth starter spot, but the Tigers apparently felt that Shane Greene was the better option for the role to begin the season. His strong showing this spring could help him get onto the major league roster during the season if anything happens to the current rotation in Detroit, though.

Boyd appears set to begin the season in Triple-A with Shane Greene moving into the rotation while Daniel Norris is out with a back injury, the Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd has a 4.24 ERA this spring and an impressive 16:5 K:BB ratio in 17 innings. However, he gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.1 innings in his last start Thursday. The Tigers will decide between Boyd and Greene in the next few days for the fifth starter role.

Boyd remains a long shot to win the job as the fifth starter, reports MLive.com.
EDGE Analysis
Daniel Norris and Shane Greene appear to be first in line for the fifth spot, but Boyd is still in camp. Boyd has a 3.29 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched this spring, but more importantly, he has fired 13 strikeouts to just 12 hits. He's still likely to start the season with the Toledo Mud Hens, but his development has clearly taken a step forward. Boyd's leg kick is now lower and (hopefully) easier to repeat than the high one he used last year. Boyd's future is improving.
