Boyd was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd posted a strong spring while competing for the fifth starter spot, but the Tigers apparently felt that Shane Greene was the better option for the role to begin the season. His strong showing this spring could help him get onto the major league roster during the season if anything happens to the current rotation in Detroit, though.

Boyd appears set to begin the season in Triple-A with Shane Greene moving into the rotation while Daniel Norris is out with a back injury, the Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd has a 4.24 ERA this spring and an impressive 16:5 K:BB ratio in 17 innings. However, he gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.1 innings in his last start Thursday. The Tigers will decide between Boyd and Greene in the next few days for the fifth starter role.

Boyd remains a long shot to win the job as the fifth starter, reports MLive.com.
EDGE Analysis
Daniel Norris and Shane Greene appear to be first in line for the fifth spot, but Boyd is still in camp. Boyd has a 3.29 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched this spring, but more importantly, he has fired 13 strikeouts to just 12 hits. He's still likely to start the season with the Toledo Mud Hens, but his development has clearly taken a step forward. Boyd's leg kick is now lower and (hopefully) easier to repeat than the high one he used last year. Boyd's future is improving.

Boyd allowed five hits, two walks and four earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched, picking up only three strikeouts in Sunday's spring training loss to the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd looked fairly solid in his previous two starts, only allowing one earned run in five innings, but Sunday's performance seems more in line with his performance last year. Boyd had a 7.53 ERA in 13 games last season while bouncing between Triple-A and the majors for both the Tigers and Blue Jays.

Boyd was roughed up Wednesday by a strong Texas lineup. He allowed seven hits, including three home runs, and gave up six runs in just 2.2 innings of work.
EDGE Analysis
This was the 16th time this season the young hurler has failed to make it to the fourth inning -- that's tied for most in all of major league baseball. Gulp. He's a fly-ball guy and he serves up a lot of taters, especially when his fastball starts to flatten out and he leaves his change-up high in the zone. Maybe he just got hit hard, but there's also a school of thought that his upside as a number three starter might be hard to attain.

Boyd allowed four runs (two earned) on one hit, walking four and striking out four over six innings, but came away with a no-decision against the Twins on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
He flashes glimpses of ability, but he struggles to find the plate at times and his ERA, while improving, still sits at an ugly 6.91 on the year. This is an audition for 2016, and there have been some positive signs, but the youngster is going to need to show more consistent command.

Boyd took a no-decision on Saturday, giving up two earned runs, three hits and a walk in six innings against the Royals. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd has been getting progressively better with each September start, with his earned runs surrendered decreasing in each appearance while his innings, pitch count, and strikeouts have all been on the rise. The rookie southpaw has endured the typical up-and-down season of a young pitcher, and figures to get two additional opportunities to showcase his wares before the conclusion of the 2015 campaign.

Boyd will have his scheduled start Wednesday against the Twins skipped, MLive.com's Chris Iott reports.
EDGE Analysis
With the Tigers set to welcome Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) and Daniel Norris (oblique) back from the disabled list this week, it's quite likely that Boyd will be bumped from the rotation entirely. He's provided little reason for manager Brad Ausmus to continue handing him the ball every fifth day, as he's posted a 8.02 ERA and 1.73 WHIP over 42.2 innings (nine starts) this season.

Boyd will not start as scheduled Sunday, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd was in line to start the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Indians, but Cleveland and Detroit were postponed Saturday for the second day in a row, so Justin Verlander will move back a day and replace Boyd in the rotation. It remains to be seen if Boyd will be pushed back a day or if his spot will be skipped.

Boyd's scheduled start Saturday will be pushed back to Sunday as part of a doubleheader.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd will start the first contest of the doubleheader, while Randy Wolf will toe the rubber in Game 2. He hasn't been overly impressive with either of his two clubs this season, but he will look for a good September audition heading into 2016 spring training.
