Rays placed LHP Matt Moore on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with left elbow soreness.
That's not good. The severity of the issue isn't yet known, but Moore apparently hurt his elbow when he gave up five runs over five innings Sunday against the Yankees. An extended absence would be a big blow to the red-hot Rays, as the 24-year-old southpaw is 14-3 with a 3.41 ERA and 115 strikeouts over 121 1/3 innings this season.

Matt Moore allowed five earned runs in five innings Sunday as the Rays fell to the Yankees.
Moore had problems from the get-go, yielding a first-pitch homer to Derek Jeter in a three-run Yankees first inning and another two runs in the third. The left-hander had been on a roll this month but looked pretty hittable on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. He escaped with a no-decision thanks to Wil Myers' two-homer day and will carry a 14-3 record, 3.41 ERA and 1.23 WHIP into his next start against the Giants at Tropicana Field.

Matt Moore hurled a shutout against the Red Sox on Monday, allowing just two hits in his first career complete game.
A big strike zone helped, but Moore was terrific, even if he struck out just four batters. His 109 pitches was the low total in a nine-inning shutout against the Red Sox since Roy Halladay did it in 100 pitches back in 2009. Moore has won six straight starts and is now 14-3 with a 3.17 ERA, putting him in the Cy Young conversation. He hasn't allowed a homer since Adam Jones took him deep on June 9.

Moore carried a no-hitter into the top of the sixth inning before yielding a double to Brian Dozier and an RBI single to Jamey Carroll. Moore wound up allowing three runs in all, but he struck out 10 and showed improved command. The left-hander is primed for a big second half.

Matt Moore earned his 12th victory of the season on Saturday, surrendering just five hits and a pair of walks over 6 1/3 scoreless innings against the White Sox.
Moore punched out six in the impressive outing. The 24-year-old southpaw appears to be back on track, winning each of his last four starts, and posting a 1.40 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 30/14 K/BB ratio in 25 2/3 innings during that stretch. He'll look to finish the first half on a high note when he takes on the Twins at home on Thursday.
