Matt Holliday left Thursday's game against the Cubs in the fourth inning with a right hamstring injury.
Holliday pulled up lame just before getting to first base as he tried to beat out a groundball. The Cardinals will re-evaluate him on Friday, but it certainly looked like something that would send the outfielder to the DL. Matt Adams would receive regular at-bats while Holliday is sidelined.

Matt Holliday went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Marlins.
Both of his hits were doubles, including one which drove in Matt Carpenter in the bottom of the third inning. Holliday has been bothered recently by a pinched nerve in his neck, which could provide some greater context for his uncharacteristic .268/.349/.434 batting line. While that would be perfectly acceptable for most players, the 33-year-old outfielder is a .310/.384/.530 career hitter.

Matt Holliday is back in the Cardinals' lineup Thursday.
Holliday missed the last two games with a pinched nerve in his neck, but he's been cleared to return to action. He's in the DH spot, as Allen Craig is again in left field.

Matt Holliday (neck) hopes to return to the lineup for Thursay's series finale with the Angels.
Holliday has been sidelined for the past two games with a pinched nerve in his neck that is affecting his ability to turn and face the pitcher. Allen Craig filled in as the Cardinals' left fielder on Wednesday night. Holliday took some swings on the side in anticipation of being used as a pinch-hitter in the later innings.

The Cardinals don't think the pinched nerve in Matt Holliday's neck will be a long-term issue.
Holliday missed a second straight start Wednesday and is unable to rotate his head to face the pitcher. However, he's feeling a bit better and could possibly be available off the bench. Allen Craig is handling left field Wednesday.

Matt Holliday is dealing with a pinched nerve in his neck/upper back.
The pinched nerve leaves Holliday unable to rotate his head to face the pitcher. There's no word on how long he might be sidelined, but that certainly doesn't sound good. If Holliday were to require a trip to the disabled list, it means more playing time for Matt Adams, as the Cardinals can shift Allen Craig to left field.

Matt Holliday (neck) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday.
It's the second straight start Holliday has missed due to a stiff neck/back. The Cards have given no indication to this point that it might be a DL situation, so consider him day-to-day. St. Louis is again going with Allen Craig in left field, David Freese at DH spot and Daniel Descalso at third base.

Matt Holliday was scratched from Tuesday's lineup with a stiff neck/back.
It sounds like a day-to-day situation. The Cardinals have yet to announce who is taking Holliday's spot in left field.

Matt Holliday went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored against the Athletics on Saturday.
Holliday has benefited slightly from moving down in the order, as he has hits in all four games since dropping from the third to the fifth spot. On Saturday, Holliday contributed with an RBI single and came in on Matt Adams' first home run of the day. Holliday is hitting .271 with 11 homers and 58 runs scored this season.

Matt Holliday has been moved down to the No. 5 spot in the Cardinals' batting order Tuesday.
It's the first time since 2011 and just the fourth time during his time as a Cardinal that Holliday has batted lower than fourth. It's understandable, though, given his relatively disappointing .268/.350/.439 batting line this season. The Cards are hitting Yadier Molina second, Carlos Beltran third and Allen Craig fourth ahead of Holliday.
