Matt Holliday left Tuesday's game against the Pirates after turning his ankle. Holliday tweaked his ankle while returning to first base following a pickoff attempt. He stayed in the game initially and appeared to be OK, but the Cardinals elected to remove him for a faster runner. Consider him day-to-day.

Matt Holliday went 2-for-3 with two home run and four RBI against the Cubs on Saturday. The homers were Holliday's first since the All-Star break, but he's been steadily heating up the past few weeks. He's now hitting a Holliday-like .287/.369/.466 with 15 homers. He also extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Matt Holliday (hamstring) has been deemed healthy enough to play after going through a series of running drills Tuesday with no issues. The outfielder said he would be healthy enough to play Tuesday, but he's not eligible to return from the DL until Saturday. "I don't see any more hurdles," Holliday said. Matt Holliday (hamstring) was able to take batting practice for the second straight day on Friday, but is still felt lingering tightness during running drills. The Cardinals believe that he is making progress, and are reluctant to place him on the disabled list, because they believe he will be back within the next few days. Depending on how he feels, he could be available as a pinch hitter on Friday.

Matt Holliday (hamstring) took batting practice on Thursday. It's the first time he's done so since leaving last Thursday's game with a right hamstring strain. Holliday has also done some light running but will have to show he can run full speed before returning to the lineup. When asked if he'll be ready to play Friday, the outfielder only said "we'll see."

Matt Holliday (hamstring) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Friday. Holliday indicated after Thursday's game that he'll likely sit out the remaining games of the series against the Cubs but hopes to avoid the DL. Allen Craig is playing left field Friday, while Matt Adams is covering first base.

Matt Holliday (hamstring) indicated after Thursday's game that he's unlikely to need a disabled list stint, calling himself "day-to-day." Holliday tweaked his right hamstring while running out a groundball Thursday. "Just grabbed me a little bit," Holliday said of the injury. "I'll have a better feel for what it looks like (Friday). Hopefully be able to use the (All-Star) break and be all right." It's good that Holliday anticipates only sitting out through the weekend, but more should be known after he's re-evaluated Friday.
