The Cardinals sent Matt Holliday home Thursday because he was dealing with a stomach virus. Naturally, the Cardinals didn't want to risk the stomach bug spreading to the other players in the clubhouse. Holliday should be fine in the next day or two.

Matt Holliday (back) is in the Cardinals' starting lineup for Game 7 of the NLCS against the Giants. Holliday was scratched from NLCS Game 6 on Sunday night after experiencing back stiffness during batting practice. But an MRI has ruled out structural damage and the Cardinals' left fielder felt much improved when he arrived back at AT&T Park on Monday afternoon. The Cards' Game 7 lineup goes Jon Jay, Carlos Beltran, Holliday, Allen Craig, Yadier Molina, David Freese, Daniel Descalso and Pete Kozma. Kyle Lohse is on the mound.

Matt Holliday (back) is unlikely to be available for Game 7 of the NLCS on Monday against the Giants. Holliday's back locked up on him during pregame batting practice before Game 6 and only got worse throughout the night. He never even appeared on the Cardinals' bench. Matt Carpenter was added to the lineup in his place on Sunday and will likely start again Monday. Holliday has posted a disappointing .597 OPS this postseason.

Updating a previous item, Matt Holliday (lower back) is available off the bench for Game 6 against the Giants. Holliday was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup, but it's not a major concern. The 32-year-old outfielder has dealt back stiffness throughout the year, but managed to miss just five regular-season games.

Matt Holliday went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in Thursday's NLCS Game 4 win over the Giants. Holliday got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first, and he plated another run with a single in the fifth. The hulking outfielder entered the game with just three hits over his last 21 at-bats, so the Cardinals were certainly happy to see him produce in this one. Jon Jay and Yadier Molina also had two RBI apiece for the Redbirds.

Matt Holliday is in the Cardinals' starting lineup for Game 4 of the NLDS on Thursday against the Nationals. Holliday made an early exit from Wednesday's Game 3 victory after fouling a ball off his shin. He has a bruise but will play through whatever discomfort it's causing. The Cardinals' Game 4 batting order goes Jon Jay, Carlos Beltran, Holliday, Allen Craig, Yadier Molina, David Freese, Daniel Descalso and Pete Kozma. Kyle Lohse is getting the start as the Redbirds try to advance to the NLCS.

Matt Holliday had two hits, including a solo home run, helping to lead the Cardinals to a 6-3 victory over the Braves to secure the NL Wild Card. Holliday's solo blast came off Kris Medlen in the sixth inning, increasing the Cardinals' lead to 4-2. The game was completed under protest after an utterly ridiculous call on an infield fly in mid left field stifled a Braves' rally in the eighth inning. The Cardinals have now won each of their last five elimination games, and could be a force to be reckoned with for the remainder of the postseason.
