Marlon Byrd is batting just .160/.300/.240 in seven games this month.
Mets manager Terry Collins also noted that Byrd "may be completely out of gas." The club appears to have missed an opportunity to get something for the veteran outfielder at the trade deadline.

Marlon Byrd remained with the Mets past the trading deadline.
New York decided that it valued fielding a stronger team in August and September more than the mid-tier prospect Byrd likely would have yielded. Byrd has enjoyed a career rebirth with the Mets and New York may change their minds about a swap if they can pass him through waivers next month.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets are "suddenly" getting some hits on outfielder Marlon Byrd.
The Pirates are one of the teams involved. The Mets have made counter-offers, so it's just a matter of whether someone will be willing to meet their asking price. Byrd has had a nice season with the Mets, but he's an aging player who likely won't be part of the next winning team, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him get moved.

Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Mets are "fielding inquiries" on Marlon Byrd "but they don't like the offers thus far."
Carig adds that the sense is Byrd won't be dealt unless the offers improve. It would make sense for the Mets to get what they can for Byrd while he's playing well above expectations and is a free agent after this season. However, just as they did with Scott Hairston last season, they appear to value being competitive down the stretch more than getting a lower-tier prospect.

Marlon Byrd swatted his 16th home run of the season in a losing effort against the Phillies on Saturday.
Byrd's three-run blast off Kyle Kendrick in the fourth inning was his only hit in four at-bats on the night. In a season chocked full of surprises, the resurgence of this 35-year-old outfielder to fantasy relevance has certainly been noteworthy. Byrd is hitting .270/.317/.509 with 16 homers and 54 RBI.

Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger writes that the Mets "will need to be overwhelmed with an offer" in order to trade Marlon Byrd.
Byrd has provided unexpected production this season, batting .271/.316/.502 with 15 homers and 51 RBI. He's also owed just $280,000 for the remainder the season. Still, it's odd that the Mets wouldn't take advantage by getting something for him now while his bat is hot, as the 35-year-old isn't part of their long-term plans. "A guy like Marlon, he's not costing us a lot of money, there's the question then of what kind of talent we might be able to get back," GM Sandy Alderson said. "It's still very important for us to try to be competitive because, regardless of what happens, this has been about changing perception and about what people can anticipate going into the future."

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win against the Pirates.
He's gone 19-for-59 (.322) in July, answering critics who expected his career to end at any moment. Even Byrd's family didn't expect this caliber of season from the veteran outfielder. Left for dead a year ago, he's currently on pace to finish with 27 homers and 91 RBI, both of which would be career bests.

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 and hit his seventh career grand slam Tuesday in the Mets' 10-5 win over the Giants.
Byrd's homer off Jake Dunning was his 14th of the season. After being left for dead a year ago, he's currently on pace to finish with the best home run total and second best OPS and RBI total of his career. The Mets, though, could trade him later this month.

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lead the Mets to a 3-2 win over the Rockies on Thursday.
Byrd has 12 homers, tying the second highest total of his career. His high is 20 for the Rangers in 2009. Byrd could bring back a prospect for the Mets next month if he keeps this up, but since he might be a part-timer for a contender if he's dealt, it could be best for his fantasy value if he stays put.

Marlon Byrd launched a solo homer in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals.
The ninth-inning blast against Edward Mujica was the only offense of the day for the Mets. Byrd went 2-for-4 in the loss and now has 10 homers and an .811 OPS through 49 games this season. He has been a nice surprise for NL-only owners.
