Phillies signed OF Marlon Byrd to a two-year, $16 million contract. The deal also includes a club/vesting option for 2016. Byrd played the 2013 campaign for $700,000, but he earned a massive raise after batting .291/.336/.511 with 24 home runs and 88 RBI in 147 games between the Mets and Pirates. He'll surely be unable to repeat that performance in 2014, but the Phils are betting that the regression won't be steep.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York hears from a source that Marlon Byrd's two-year contract with the Phillies is worth $16 million. Not bad for a guy who had to settle for a minor league deal last offseason. The Phillies are hoping that Byrd can provide some right-handed thump in their lineup, but the contract won't be crippling if he's unable to replicate his production from 2013.

Marc Carig of Newsday reports that the Mets have "touched base with Marlon Byrd's people." Byrd hit .291/.336/.511 with 24 home runs and 88 RBI in 147 games this year between the Mets and Pirates. He turns 37 next season but should be able to find a multi-year contract on the open market this winter.

MLB.com's Tom Singer writes that Pirates general manager Neal Huntington will "push hard" for a new deal with Marlon Byrd during the club's five-day exclusivity window. The Bucs want to re-sign Byrd. However, Singer notes that outfield prospect Gregory Polanco is due to take over right field at some point in 2014, so Byrd might have a better opportunity elsewhere. Byrd batted .291/.336/.511 with 24 homers and 88 RBI for the Mets and Pirates this season.

Playing in his first ever postseason game, Marlon Byrd ripped a solo homer and added a sac fly in Tuesday's win over the Reds. Byrd drilled a hanging changeup from Johnny Cueto in the second inning to get the scoring going. The 36-year-old outfielder has proved to be a nice pickup for the Pirates, as he batted .318/.357/.486 for them down the stretch and then came up big in the win-or-go-home Wild Card contest.

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with two runs scored against the Cubs on Tuesday. Byrd had two of the Cubs' 12 hits, and he scored on Pedro Alvarez doubles in the second and fifth innings. The outfielder has just two home runs since being acquired by the Pirates on August 27, but his 84 RBI this season are still good for 10th in the National League. Byrd has a .285/.330/.501 line in what has been a renaissance year for the 36-year-old.

Marlon Byrd went 1-for-3 with a solo home run on Saturday, powering the Pirates to a 2-1 victory over the Cubs. The Pirates trailed 1-0 for most of the game, until a Jose Tabata solo homer in the sixth inning knotted the score at 1-1. Marlon Byrd then delivered the requisite support for starter Gerrit Cole with a towering drive to right off James Russell in the seventh. Since joining the Pirates on August 28, Byrd is hitting .323 (20-for-62) with two homers and 10 RBI in 17 games.

Marlon Byrd went 3-for-5 with an RBI against the Brewers on Wednesday. Byrd was having a marvelous season before being dealt to Pittsburgh, and since the trade he's done nothing but hit. The three-hit game makes him 12-for-31 (.387) with a home run, four runs scored and eight RBI in eight games with the Pirates. Nothing Byrd does this season would surprise us anymore.
