Marlon Byrd went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in the Pirates' 7-1 win over the Brewers on Wednesday. Starting and batting cleanup behind Andrew McCutchen, Byrd picked up in Pittsburgh where he left off in New York. The homer was Byrd's only hit in four at-bats but drove in three, giving the outfielder 22 homers and 74 RBI for the year.

Marlon Byrd will bat cleanup in his Pirates' debut Wednesday against the Brewers. Byrd, who was acquired from the Mets on Tuesday, is batting .285/.330/.518 with 21 home runs and 71 RBI in 117 games this season and should provide a nice boost in right field for the second-place Pirates. Jose Tabata figures to be the primarily fill-in option while left fielder Starling Marte (hand) is sidelined.

Pirates acquired OF Marlon Byrd, C John Buck and cash considerations from the Mets for INF Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com was first to report the full details of the trade. Byrd is a solid fit for Pittsburgh, as he'll provide some thump out of right field. The 35-year-old has enjoyed a resurgent campaign in 2013, batting .285/.330/.518 with 21 home runs and 71 RBI in 117 games. He'll be a free agent after the season. The trade is bad news for Jose Tabata, though he figures to play left field until Starling Marte (finger) makes it back from the disabled list.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets have traded Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pirates. Both players are fine fits for Pittsburgh, as Byrd provides some much-needed outfield help while Buck will back up Russell Martin now that Michael McKenry (knee) is out for the rest of the season. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports hears that the Mets will receive a minor leaguer and a player to be named later in return.

Sources have suggested to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports that Marlon Byrd was claimed off waivers by a National League team. No word on who the claiming team might be and it's possible that he was claimed with the intent to block him from going to another team. However, the Pirates would make plenty of sense as a potential fit. Byrd has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence this season, batting .285/.330/.518 with 21 home runs and 71 RBI.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York hears that Marlon Byrd was claimed off revocable waivers. The Mets now have 48 hours to work out a trade with the claiming team. It was previously believed that the Mets preferred to keep Byrd for the rest of the season, but Rubin reported early Tuesday morning that the team is preparing for the possibility of multiple trades within the next couple of days.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets have at least five players going through revocable waivers and that there is a high probability that the club will make at least one trade in the next 24 to 48 hours. It appears the Mets are prepping for potential trades, as the club has catcher Anthony Recker, outfielder Matt den Dekker and left-hander Robert Carson en route to New York. Marlon Byrd, John Buck, and Pedro Feliciano are among the candidates to be traded.

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run double in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Padres. The go-ahead hit was set up when Padres manager Bud Black elected to intentionally walk Daniel Murphy. Byrd owes an assist to Chris Denorfia, who would have had a legitimate chance to catch the double if he didn't misplay it badly. The veteran outfielder went into a bit of a funk to begin the month, but he has three multi-hit games in his last four, during which he has collected four extra-base hits.

Marlon Byrd went 3-for-6 with a double, homer and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. Tonight marked an encouraging step forward for Byrd, who had slumped to a .231 average with no homers and zero RBI over 39 August at-bats entering the game. Mets manager Terry Collins said last week that Byrd "may be completely out of gas." Byrd has hit safely in all three games since Collins gave him a breather on Sunday.

Marlon Byrd is not in the Mets' lineup Sunday. It's just a routine day off. Mike Baxter is taking Byrd's place in right field.
