Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Mets are "fielding inquiries" on Marlon Byrd "but they don't like the offers thus far." Carig adds that the sense is Byrd won't be dealt unless the offers improve. It would make sense for the Mets to get what they can for Byrd while he's playing well above expectations and is a free agent after this season. However, just as they did with Scott Hairston last season, they appear to value being competitive down the stretch more than getting a lower-tier prospect.
