EDGE Analysis
Teixeira returned from a leg injury Tuesday, but is out of the lineup again Wednesday. There's no indication that he aggravated the issue, but it's a bit surprising he'll get another rest after just one day back. Greg Bird will receive he start in his place once again Wednesday, batting sixth.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cleveland Indians because of a leg injury, according to the team's official website. Teixeira, who has been out since suffering the injury last Monday against the Minnesota Twins, was able to take batting practice Sunday, giving the team optimism that he could return to the lineup Monday against the Houston Astros. "As much as we've tried to get him back in the lineup, he's still hurting," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told NJ.com on Saturday. Teixiera suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his shin that hit him just above the shin guard that he wears on his right leg, and he was diagnosed with a deep bone bruise after undergoing an MRI. He has had an excellent bounce back year, as he is hitting .257 with 31 home runs and 79 RBI in 109 games after hitting .216 with 22 home runs and 62 RBI in 123 games last season.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is expected to miss his third consecutive game Thursday against the Cleveland Indians because of a leg injury, according to New York Newsday. While he is still not expected to land on the disabled list, Teixeira does not have a timetable for return, manager Joe Girardi said. The Yankees initially were unconcerned after Teixeira had to leave Monday's game after fouling a ball off his leg. "It's not a whole lot better. We know it's day-to-day," Girardi said. "Hopefully one day he will come in and really turn the corner." Rookie Greg Bird, who made his second straight start in Teixiera's absence Wednesday, likely will continue to see time at the position after hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. The Yankees enter Thursday in first place in the American League East at 67-52.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira underwent a CT scan after fouling a ball off his knee Monday against the Minnesota Twins, and it showed a significant bruise but no fracture, according to the YES Network. Teixeira suffered the injury during an at-bat in the sixth inning Monday, and while he was able to draw a walk to complete the at-bat, he was removed for a pinch-runner after making his way to first base. It is unclear how long Teixiera will be sidelined, but he will meet with team doctors Tuesday to help determine his recovery plan. “Right below the knee,” Teixeira told the New York Daily News, referring to where he was hit by the ball. “Just a bad spot. Hopefully, it feels better (Tuesday). It just hurts to put any pressure on it right now. You don’t want to get hit there."

Teixeira went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs and a walk in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the Athletics. The AL RBI leader (61) crushed his 21st and 22nd home runs off Evan Scribner into the right field seats at Yankee Stadium. Teixeira now has the same number of home runs that he had all of last year, with 17 coming against right-handed pitching. While his .244 batting average isn't stellar, Teixeira's other counting stats have more than made up for it.

Teixeira provided plenty of punch, going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in the Yankees extra-innings win over Tampa Bay on Friday night. He's hitting a modest .245, but he has now smashed 20 home runs and driven in 58 so the Yankees and his fantasy owners should be more than pleased with his first half performance.

Teixeira went 3-for-5 with two RBI in his return to the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies. He'd missed a pair of games due to some neck soreness, but seems to be feeling better and should return to being a fixture in the Yankees' lineup moving forward.

Teixeira (neck) will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Phillies. Teixeira missed the last two contests due to a sore neck, but the cortisone shot he received Monday appears to have kicked in. He'll once again man first base, and will bat cleanup for the Yankees against the Phillies and southpaw Cole Hamels.

Teixeira (neck) is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. This was to be expected, as Teixeira received a cortisone shot Monday to treat his ailing neck. It typically takes a few days for cortisone shots to take effect, but it sounds like Teixeira has a chance to return for Wednesday's series finale. Garrett Jones will get the start at first base and bat sixth Tuesday.
