Gregerson tallied his third save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning in Friday's 1-0 victory over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The 31-year-old closer picked up his third save over his last four appearances, needing only five pitches to dispose of three Tigers in the final frame of the shutout victory. Gregerson has given up only one hit over four innings of work in 2016, but Friday's outing was his most efficient to date.

Gregerson picked up his second save of the season in Saturday's win against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
After getting two quick outs, the right-handed veteran allowed a single and walk before managing to shut the door by getting a groundout. This sequence would be no big deal for most closers, but Gregerson has little room for error if he wants to keep his job. The Astros went out and acquired Ken Giles from Philadelphia in the offseason to shore up the back of the bullpen, and it seems inevitable that Giles will eventually assume the closers' job while Gregerson would be given the set-up role. Going forward, the 31-year-old will need to have cleaner outings than he did Saturday

Gregerson pitched a scoreless ninth while striking out one to record his first save Tuesday against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Gregerson got the save opportunity while Ken Giles entered the game as his set up man. There's no guarantee how long he'll hang onto the closer job, but he certainly did his job on opening day.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Monday morning that Gregerson will open the season as the Astros' primary closer, Julia Morales of ROOT Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was expected that Ken Giles would open the season as the Astros' closer, but he struggled a bit this spring and in his first season with the Astros, so Hinch made the late call to enter the regular season with Gregerson as his closer. While Giles looms in the background, Gregerson does have a history of success as the Astros' closer, saving 31 games for the team a year ago.

Gregerson struck out the side on nine pitches during his first Grapefruit League appearance Sunday against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson got a late start to spring training due to a sore left oblique, but his first Grapefruit League appearance couldn't have gone better. The veteran reliever expressed his desire to remain in the closer role at the start of camp, but he's expected to open 2016 as the Astros' setup man, with Ken Giles manning the ninth inning.

Gregerson (oblique) will pitch in a game this weekend, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson looked healthy in his minor league outing Wednesday and he is now set to make his first Grapefruit League appearance of the spring over the weekend. "That was important for him and important for us to see him on the mound competing, throwing all his pitches. He had a good slider, he had a good fastball," said manager A.J Hinch after Gregerson's outing Wednesday. Provided he can stay healthy, Gregerson will be the Astros' closer on Opening Day.

EDGE Analysis
Gregerson threw a bullpen session Monday, but he has yet to appear in Grapefruit League action and will not do so until Thursday at the earliest. Despite the cautious approach that the Astros appear to be taking with the veteran right-hander, manager A.J. Hinch is confident he'll be ready for Opening Day.

Gregerson has yet to pitch in a Grapefruit League game, but he should do so in the next few days, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever was slowed by oblique soreness early in camp, but he recently threw 18 pitches in a minor league game without setback. While Astros manager A.J. Hinch has not officially named a closer, Gregerson is expected to assume a set-up role to Ken Giles to open 2016.

Gregerson (oblique) made his spring training pitching debut Wednesday in a minor league intrasquad game, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson pitched a scoreless frame, striking out Alex Bregman and Derek Fisher before issuing a walk to Evan Gattis (sports hernia). The veteran reliever closed out the inning by inducing a fly ball to center off the bat of J.D. Davis. "It's nice to get a little bit of adrenaline going," he said after throwing 18 pitches. "I know it's a minor league game on a back field. It's not 50,000 people in the stands or nothing like that, but you still get that pump of adrenaline when you're out there facing live hitters."
