Gregerson (oblique) will throw an "aggressive" bullpen session Wednesday, manager A.J. Hinch said, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was cleared to resume mound work less than a week after landing on the DL, and if he's able to successfully dial up the intensity Wednesday, Gregerson should get the green light to bypass a minor league rehab assignment. Ken Giles recently took over in the closer role for Will Harris, who took the job from Gregerson back in early June.

Gregerson (oblique) is not expected to have a minor league rehab assignment before rejoining the Astros, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson managed to throw off a mound Monday and is eligible to return from the disabled list Friday, although Houston still hasn't confirmed that he'll be back in the bullpen Friday just yet.

Gregerson (oblique) resumed throwing off flat ground Sunday, Angel Verdejo of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's the first step in the recovery progress for Gregerson, who was placed on the 15-day DL on Aug. 2 with the oblique strain. The fact that he's already resuming throwing suggests that Gregerson likely won't be sidelined for much longer than the minimum amount of time, putting a mid-to-late August return well within reach. Once healthy, Gregerson will work in a setup role behind newly-appointed closer Ken Giles.

Gregerson was placed on the 15-day DL with a left oblique strain, Angel Verdejo Jr. of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear exactly when Gregerson began feeling discomfort but he'll head to the DL now to recuperate. The Astros will miss his arm in the bullpen as he'd given up only one earned run over 10.1 innings in July (0.87 ERA). James Hoyt is expected to be recalled Wednesday in a corresponding roster move.

Gregerson (bereavement) was activated off the family medical emergency list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson returns to the Astros bullpen in time for the start of their series against the Reds. Prior to being placed on the family medical emergency list, Gregerson had struggled mightily and lost his hold on the closer's role. There is an open competition between Gregerson and Will Harris for the closer's role, so that may continue to be an unsettled situation for the time being. Tyler White was optioned to Triple-A Fresno in a corresponding move Friday with Gregerson returning to the team.

Gregerson was placed on the family medical emergency list on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
It is unclear when exactly Gregerson will be able to return, but there will likely be updates on his status in the near future. His absence means that Will Harris could get more save opportunities for the Astros.

Gregerson was told by manager A.J. Hinch that he would not close Sunday, Julia Morales of ROOT Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson has now blown consecutive save opportunities, which looks to have placed his role as the closer in jeopardy. In Sunday's save situation, Hinch elected to use right-hander Will Harris instead, and Harris came through with a perfect ninth frame that included one strikeout. Hinch insists that he isn't naming a closer for now, and plans to allow several options, including Gregerson, to compete for the job over the coming weeks.

Gregerson will be unavailable out of the Astros' bullpen for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks, Angel Verdejo Jr. of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson pitched in four of the past five games prior to Thursday's contest, picking up three saves during that span while allowing his fourth blown save of the season Wednesday. The Astros will likely send out Ken Giles or Will Harris to the mound in the event of a save situation, according to what the matchups dictate.

Gregerson was tagged with his fourth blown save Wednesday after allowing three runs on two hits and a hit batsman while recording just one out against the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
He pegged Jean Segura, then gave up a run-scoring double to Michael Bourn and a two-run homer to Jake Lamb, erasing a 4-1 lead. The Astros went on to win in 11 anyway, but it's got to be a concern for Gregerson owners that his ERA has now popped over the 4.00 mark while his 13-for-17 record in save chances isn't that impressive. Ken Giles still hasn't quite put it together well enough to be threatening his job, but Gregerson can't count on that -- he needs to be more a consistent and reliable ninth-inning presence.

Gregreson tossed one inning and struck out the side during Tuesday's win against Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson entered the game after Scott Feldman allowed two runs (one earned) at the top of the ninth, but he didn't have problems to retire all three batters he faced while tossing only 18 pitches. Gregerson has only converted eight of his 11 save chances and currently spots a 3.28 ERA, but remains a pretty reliable option for the closer role in all formats. He has converted his last four save opportunities.
