Gregerson allowed a hit and struck out a batter across a scoreless inning en route to his 41st save in a 7-6 win over the Mariners on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
It took Gregerson just six pitches to get his save and it was a win the Astros desperately needed. The numbers have been solid for the righty, as he holds a 3.15 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 60 innings this season. His biggest strength is his control, as Gregerson has walked only 10 batters all season.

Gregerson rebounded Sunday, needing only 10 pitches (eight for strikes) to complete a perfect ninth inning against the Rangers to earn his 29th save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
After allowing three runs on four hits during a non-save situation Saturday, Gregerson was right back in there to pitch a high-leverage situation Sunday. He obviously responded well and lowered his ERA to 3.24 with the scoreless outing.

Gregerson struggled in a non-save situation Saturday, giving up three runs on four hits in 0.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
He also hit a batter with a pitch. Gregerson started the ninth inning protecting a 9-4 lead, but after striking out the first two hitters he faced the wheels came off, forcing Will Harris to record the final out of the game. Gregerson hasn't officially blown a save since early August, so his job as closer is in no jeopardy despite Saturday's meltdown.

Gregerson (personal) will rejoin the Astros on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander left the team earlier in the week to await the birth of his child, but manager A.J. Hinch said Gregerson will be back for the final two games of the A's series. Houston hasn't missed its endgamer the last two days, but that's because the team was blown out 14-3 and 8-2 on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Pat Neshek remains the top fill-in option in Gregerson's absence.

Gregerson will leave the team Wednesday to be with his wife as she goes into labor, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Astros have not officially made a move, but it's entirely possible, even with expanded rosters, Gregerson winds up on the paternity list. If he does, Gregerson could remain on leave for up to three days. Pat Neshek, who has posted a 3.16 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 28 holds this season, is a logical candidate to step into the closer role in Gregerson's absence.

Gregerson threw only 10 pitches (seven for strikes) and lowered his ERA to 2.98 with his second straight scoreless appearance for the Astros.

Gregerson (7-3)took the loss on Saturday, surrendering two hits and two earned runs in one inning in a 3-2 defeat to the Twins. He also struck out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson began his night by giving up a single to Brian Dozier and hitting Trevor Plouffe two batters later, setting the stage for a two RBI-triple by Eddie Rosario that went off the glove of George Springer. The two earned runs he yielded Saturday were the first surrendered by the veteran reliever since an Aug. 9 blown save against the A's, and he is expected to remain the Astros closer for the remainder of the season.

Gregerson secured his 25th save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning in a 4-1 victory over the Twins on Saturday. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Gregerson seems to be settling into a solid groove in the season's stretch run. Saturday's performance marked his seventh consecutive appearance without allowing a run after blowing back-to-back save opportunities earlier in the month. The hard-throwing right-hander now has 12 whiffs in 11.2 August innings and looks to have a firm grasp on the closer's role as the Astros continue their postseason push.

Gregerson struck out a batter during a perfect ninth inning Tuesday against the Rockies to earn his 17th save of the season. Gregerson needed only seven pitches (six thrown for strikes) to retire Charlie Blackmon, Corey Dickerson and Troy Tulowitzki in order. After a disastrous outing against Toronto on June 7, the 31-year-old right-hander has three straight scoreless appearances for the Astros, lowering his ERA from 4.50 to 4.00 during that span.

Gregerson picked up his 16th save in Houston's win Monday over Colorado. He allowed a hit but avoided any further damage. Gregerson's ERA sits at an ugly 4.15, but he has six shutout innings in his last seven with 10 strikeouts and no walks over that span. At 16-of-18 on save opportunities he looks to have a hold on the job, and his track record -- four straight seasons of an ERA under 3.00 -- deserves respect.
