Juan Nicasio surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Padres.
Nicasio struck out six in each of his first two outings and fell off to three tonight, but everything else was encouraging. He issued only one free pass. The right-hander has sandwiched two quality starts around last week's rough outing against the White Sox. Add it all up and he's 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through three outings. He'll face off against the Phillies at home on Sunday.

Juan Nicasio allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings during Thursday's start against the Brewers.
Nicasio allowed three hits, all doubles, while walking three and striking out three. He has now had back-to-back shaky outings. Considering his prior body of work, with a career 4.92 ERA over 55 starts, it's best to proceed with caution with Nicasio. He'll be the Rockies' #4 starter when the season begins.

Juan Nicasio turned in his first rough start of the Cactus League season on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings against the Angels.
Nicasio did strike out four while walking only one in the game. His problem stemmed entirely from his inability to keep the ball in the yard, allowing long balls to Mike Trout, Howie Kendrick and Matt Long. He still owns a 3.18 ERA and 10/2 K/BB ratio on the spring, and should be able to secure a spot in the Opening Day rotation.

Juan Nicasio struck out four in three shutout innings against the Giants on Tuesday.
Nicasio is battling for a spot at the back of the Rockies' starting rotation. Tuesday's outing certainly helps his cause. Nicasio had poor results over 31 starts last season, finishing with a 5.14 ERA and an unflattering 1.86 K/BB ratio.

Rockies avoided arbitration with RHP Juan Nicasio by agreeing to a one-year, $2.025 million contract.
Nicasio was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after qualifying for Super Two status. The young right-hander posted a disappointing 5.14 ERA last season and will have to compete to remain in the Rockies' rotation in 2014.

Juan Nicasio blanked the Dodgers for 5 1/3 innings, striking out seven, in a victory Saturday.
Nicasio was rocked in his previous two starts, so there was no salvaging his ERA. Still, he did finish at 9-9 to go along with a 5.12 mark. The big problem is that his bad outings were really bad, plus he didn't pitch very deep into the game on his better days. Still, he did allow two or fewer runs in 15 of his 31 starts. The Rockies figure to stick with him as their fourth or fifth starter next season.

Nicasio fanned one and walked two in the abbreviated outing. The D'Backs struck for four runs in the second inning, then tacked on three more in the third before chasing Nicasio from the ballgame. He's had more downs than ups this season, and will carry a disappointing 5.32 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 112/63 K/BB ratio into his final start of the season against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Juan Nicasio was shelled for six runs in 4 1/3 innings Saturday as the Rockies fell to the Reds.
It was a big step backward for the 27-year-old right-hander, who had been sharp in four straight starts. He issued three walks and gave up seven hits on Saturday and the Reds were able to take advantage of those baserunners. Nicaso will try to bounce back next week in San Diego.
