The Rockies will decide over the winter whether or not Nicasio will remain with the team as a starter or a reliever in 2015, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports. The first order of business for the Rockies will be in determining if they even want to tender Nicasio a contract in the offseason, as the organization's patience with the right-hander has perhaps worn thin due the lack of development up to this point in his career. Should they decide to keep Nicasio in the fold, the numbers would seem to argue that the bullpen would be a better fit for him, given his better numbers since moving to relief in the second half. Over his 16.2 innings out of the bullpen this season, Nicasio has posted a 3.75 K/BB ratio, nearly double the figure he posted over 73 frames as a starter.

Nicasio tossed two scoreless innings in relief Wednesday vs. the Padres, giving up two hits and a walk. Banished from the Rockies rotation earlier this season, Nicasio will see time as long man in the bullpen for now. Since his Aug. 7 recall, he's given up two runs over five relief innings. Should the Rockies suffer another injury to one of the members of their rotation, Nicasio would likely be the team's first option to make a spot start.

Nicasio was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports. It seems Nicasio was brought up for insurance just in case Thursday's game goes into extra innings. In 14 starts for the Rockies earlier this season, Nicasio posted a 5.92 ERA and 1.59 WHIP, but he's at least more stretched out than Brooks Brown.

Rockies optioned RHP Juan Nicasio to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Nicasio has posted a 5.92 ERA over 14 starts this season and allowed a whopping 25 runs over his last 15 2/3 innings to earn the demotion. It's not clear at this point who will replace him in the Rockies' rotation.

Juan Nicasio took the loss, allowing seven runs over 5 1/3 innings in Thursday's loss to the D'Backs. Nicasio's struggles continue, allowing five-plus runs in back-to-back starts. The right-hander allowed 11 hits -- including home runs to Miguel Montero and Paul Goldschmidt -- while walking one and striking out three. Juan Nicasio earned the no-decision, allowing four runs in six innings as the Rockies defeated the Padres 8-6 in ten innings on Sunday. Nicasio allowed nine hits, including two home runs to Seth Smith and Rene Rivera, while walking one and striking out two. It's the fourth consecutive start in which Nicasio has registered three or fewer strikeouts, which is concerning. Overall, he has a 4.03 ERA with a 32/15 K/BB ratio in 51 1/3 innings. Nicasio will face the Braves on the road in his next start.

Juan Nicasio improved to 3-1 with seven shutout innings against the Mets on Thursday as the Rockies went on to win 7-4. Nicasio has been very inconsistent to start the season, entering Thursday's start with a 5.27 ERA. But he was brilliant against the Mets, holding them scoreless on three hits and a walk while striking out two. His ERA is now down to 4.19. Nicasio has shown flashes of brilliance at times in recent years but has simply been far too unreliable due to his spotty command. Nicasio will face the Rangers at home in his next outing.

Juan Nicasio took his first loss of the year after giving up five runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Dodgers on Saturday. Nicasio has been bitten by the home run bug in his last two outings, surrendering two bombs each time. He still has a nice 24/7 K/BB ratio in 27 1/3 innings for the season, so his rotation spot shouldn't be in jeopardy. There just isn't much reason to own him in NL-only leagues.

He'll face another tough test Saturday against the Dodgers.
