Jonathan Singleton is still hitless for the spring after going 0-for-3 on Sunday. Singleton has walked six times, but he's 0-for-15 with four strikeouts. His already slim chances of winning the first base job in Houston have started to drop.

Astros manager Bo Porter said Jonathan Singleton will have a chance to win a spot with the team in spring training. Singleton had a monster showing in the Puerto Rican Winter League, leading the league in home runs, total bases and OPS. The 22-year-old also missed 50 games this past season due to violating the league's substance abuse policy. He may not be the team's starting first baseman right out of the gate, but it sounds like he'll be given a legitimate shot to make the team.

Astros prospect Jonathan Singleton hit his seventh home run Wednesday in the Puerto Rican Winter League. Singleton now leads the league in home runs, and his next-closest competitor is three back. The powerful 22-year-old boasts a 1.040 OPS through 23 games of winter ball. He is fully expected to reach the majors in 2014.

The Astros are promoting top prospect Jonathan Singleton to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He might have started the season there if he didn't have to miss the first 50 games of the season for a positive marijuana test. Singleton has batted .271/.397/.627 with five homers and 13 RBI over 17 games between Low- and Double-A since returning from his suspension. The 21-year-old could possibly push for a call-up later this season.

Jonathan Singleton went 3-for-3 with two home runs for Double-A Corpus Christi on Thursday. Singleton has been crushing the ball since returning from suspension, batting .302/.406/.698 with five homers and 13 RBI over 15 games between Low- and Double-A. The 21-year-old could possibly push for a call-up this season and has a shot to be the Astros' starting first baseman in 2014.

Jonathan Singleton hit a pair of homers and walked Thursday against the Tigers. Singleton is able to take part in spring training even though he was suspended 50 games for marijuana usage in January. He'll begin serving that penalty with the start of the minor league season. If he plays well upon returning, he might get a look as the Astros' first baseman after the All-Star break.

Astros top prospect Jonathan Singleton, who has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for marijuana, will participate in Minor League camp during spring training. Despite the setback though, Astros GM Jeff Lunhow believes that Singleton could reach the majors during the 2013 season. The 21-year-old slugger hit .284/.396/.497 with 21 homers and 79 RBI at Double-A Corpus Christi in 2012, and could be an instant fantasy contributor upon his arrival.

Jonathan Singleton has been suspended 50 games for violating the minor league baseball drug policy. "I was informed today that I have tested positive for marijuana," Singleton said in a statement. "As a result, I am being suspended for the first 50 games of the 2013 season. I accept the penalty and take full responsibility for my actions. I apologize to my parents, the Houston Astros and (general manager) Jeff Luhnow." The 21-year-old first baseman was acquired from the Phillies in July 2011 as part of a package for Hunter Pence and is generally regarded as one of the game's top prospects.
