Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said it's "still to be determined" whether Singleton makes the Opening Day roster out of spring training, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Singleton got close to 10 at-bats on the minor league fields on Thursday, as he is working on specific things with his swing. The 23-year-old leads Houston with six doubles this spring, but he's hitting .244 with 14 strikeouts in 41-at bats. If Singleton doesn't break camp with the team, Chris Carter would step in as the regular first baseman with Evan Gattis and Matt Dominguez as secondary options for the position.

Singleton is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with six doubles in 11 spring appearances. Singleton got off to a slow start this spring, but he has turned things around at the plate and leads Houston with six doubles. The 23-year-old's contact issues remain (nine strikeouts this spring), but he appears to be in line to open 2015 as the Astros' starting first baseman.

The 23-year-old admitted that it's been a "very difficult" way to his end his rookie campaign, and he'll likely be relegated to pinch-hit duty for the entire Mets series, unless Chris Carter's nagging lower-back injury presents issues. Singleton has hit just .168/.287/.336 with 13 homers and 133 strikeouts in 92 games with the big club, after inking a long-term extension with the team in early June.

Singleton is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers. Singleton has struggled mightily this season, slashing just .168/.287/.336. He has just three at-bats over the team's last five games, as Chris Carter will fill in at first on Wednesday.

Singleton is out of the Astros' lineup again Saturday. Singleton will ride the pine for a second straight day, following a 4-for-37 start to September. The 23-year-old has struggled to adjust to major league pitching (.169 average), but it seems likely he'll open 2015 in an everyday role, after inking a long-term extension with the club in June.

Singleton is out of the lineup Friday against the Mariners. Singleton will get a day off following an 0-for-4 night at the plate Tuesday, wearing the golden sombrero with four strikeouts. He has been floundering at the plate recently, and is currently riding a 0-for-19 skid at the plate with 15 strikeouts over his past seven games. Chris Carter gets the start at first base while Jose Altuve takes the designated hitter spot for Friday's contest.

Singleton is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. Singleton will get a day off after stating the last seven games for the Astros. Jesus Guzman will get the start at first base Sunday in Singleton's place.

Singleton is out of the lineup Saturday. He hit his 13th home run of the season Friday, but 13 of his 49 hits have gone for homers, and he really shows no signs of getting his average over .200 (currently at .179) this season. Jesus Guzman will get the start at first base.
