Astros signed 1B Jon Singleton to a five-year, $10 million contract extension.
The deal also includes three club options and can be worth up to $35 million if all the options and incentives are triggered. It's a nice safety net for Singleton, but it will wind up being an extremely club-friendly deal if he comes anywhere close to reaching his ceiling. Singleton will make his major league debut on Tuesday.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Astros have signed top first base prospect Jonathan Singleton to a five-year contract with three club options.
The historic deal -- a first for a player with zero major league service time -- carries $10 million in guaranteed money and can be worth up to $35 million if all the options and incentives are triggered. Singleton, 22, will be promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City before Tuesday's game against the Angels to take over as Houston's regular first baseman. He was sporting a .941 OPS, 14 home runs, and 43 RBI in 54 games this year at Triple-A and should be owned in all mixed fantasy leagues.

Astros prospect 1B Jonathan Singleton went 2-for-5 with his 13th home run of the season on Monday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The long ball was Singleton's first since May 12, and it pulled him out of an 11-game skid during which he batted .158 with zero extra-base hits and 12 strikeouts. Overall, the 22-year-old is batting .272/.392/.550 with nine doubles, 39 RBI and a 49/36 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 49 games. He figures to be the next Astros prospect to join George Springer in the major leagues, possibly as soon as next month.

Astros general manager Jeff Lunhow said Wednesday that first baseman Jonathan Singleton is "on deck."
Lunhow refused to disclose details, but noted that "when the time is right" Singleton will be promoted to Houston. The Super Two deadline is set to pass in early June. That's presumably when the time will be right. Singleton, 22, is batting .293/.401/.629 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 38 games this year at Triple-A.

Astros first base prospect Jonathan Singleton went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Monday for the Triple-A Oklahoma City.
After a brief slump, Singleton has hit .444/.524/.889 with two doubles and two homers over his past five games. More importantly, he has walked eight times and struck out only four times in his past 42 plate appearances. If he can keep his strikeouts down while picking up walks and hitting for power, he could make a big splash in Houston. He is likely to be up in early June.

Astros prospect 1B Jonathan Singleton enjoyed a big game Thursday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 22-year-old had been slumping over the last few weeks after opening the season on fire, as he was batting just .192/.348/.385 with four extra-base hits in his previous 16 games headed into Thursday. On the year, Singleton has posted a 1.028 OPS with 19 extra-base hits (11 home runs), 31 RBI and a 33/23 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 33 games for Oklahoma City. With George Springer now manning right field for the Astros, it's seemingly only a matter of time until Singleton joins him in the major leagues.

Astros first base prospect Jonathan Singleton went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts on Wednesday, lowering his season line to .293/.398/.646 for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
After the game on April 19, Singleton's season line sat at .343/.429/.776, but he has hit just .188/.341/.375 in the intervening games. He has 31 strikeouts in 118 plate appearances, and needs to improve on his pitch selection and decrease his swing-and-miss tendencies, or else he could get carved up in a fashion similar to former teammate George Springer. Singleton is still on track for a call-up before Independence Day.

Astros first base prospect Jonathan Singleton is hitting .326/.453/.698 with four home runs the season.
Singleton appears to have nothing left to prove in the minor leagues and, much like George Springer, is simply biding his time until he makes his major league debut. Similar to Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas in 2011, they could make their debut before the middle of May.

Astros prospect first baseman Jonathan Singleton is hitting .263/.417/.526 through five games in his return to Triple-A.
Singleton had a lost season in 2013, struggling to a .230/.351/.401 line after missing the first 50 games after a second positive test for a "drug of abuse". He looked better in spring training, and could be called up to Houston before the all-star break. He could be an impact player, hitting .280 with 20+ home runs and lots of walks. Monitor his performance closely, as he will push Mark Krauss out of the way when he is ready.

Astros optioned 1B Jonathan Singleton to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Singleton never had a great shot at cracking the Astros' Opening Day roster and batted just .154 this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 22-year-old should make his major league debut at some point this summer and is still in the plans as Houston's long-term first baseman.
