Free-agent shortstop Jimmy Rollins had minor surgery on his left wrist Thursday. The surgery is not expected to impact his availability for spring training. Rollins has been adamant in his desire for a five-year deal this offseason, but it's remains unlikely that any team would be willing to give him that length of contract. The 33-year-old posted a .268/.338/.399 batting line with 16 homers and 30 stolen bases in 142 games for Philadelphia this past season. He is expected to return on a three-year deal, perhaps with an option.

Jimmy Rollins' agent, Dan Lozano, is expected to talk with Phillies' general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. on Saturday. The Brewers are no longer a possibility for Rollins, so unless the Cardinals make a late-run, most believe he will end up back in Philadelphia. The 33-year-old shortstop hasn't wavered from his desire for a five-year deal yet, though it's hard to imagine he'll get that at this point. MLB Network's Jon Heyman hears that the Phillies would like to keep him to a three-year deal, perhaps with an option.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals "would be reluctant to enter the bidding" Jimmy Rollins unless he comes down from his demand for a five-year deal. Not surprising. It seems unlikely that the Cards, Phillies or any other team will give him five years since he's already 33, but it's certainly possible. Rollins is arguably the best position player left on the market, so he should be able to next a sizable deal. The general feeling is that him re-signing with Philly is likely.

Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio reports that although there is no deal yet, Jimmy Rollins is ultimately expected to re-sign with the Phillies. That's been the sentiment for a while now. Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reported earlier that Rollins had re-signed, and although his report was premature, it appears as though it will get done eventually. Rollins is eying a five-year deal, though the Phillies would prefer not to go to those lengths.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that Jimmy Rollins and the Phillies have not reached an agreement yet. Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com says the same thing. Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM Radio reported earlier that Rollins had re-signed, but it appears he may have jumped the gun. It does still seem likely that the shortstop winds up re-upping with the Phillies, though.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies met "late into the night" with Jimmy Rollins' agent. A chat between the two sides on Monday morning ended poorly, but perhaps progress was made later in the evening. Rollins, 33, is thought to be seeking a five-year contract. He posted a .268/.338/.399 batting line with 16 home runs and 30 steals in 142 games this past year for Philly.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that "most still believe" the Phillies will re-sign Jimmy Rollins "even though early negotiations did not go well." The two sides are scheduled to meet again Monday night. Rollins wants a five-year deal, something the Phillies are probably hesitant to hand out, but he seems unlikely to get five years from anyone else, either. Perhaps a four-year deal with a team option for a fifth year would be a fair compromise. Rollins is also drawing interest from the Brewers and Cardinals.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com heard Monday that a recent meeting between Phillies officials and the agent for Jimmy Rollins "did not go well." Rollins and his agent, Dan Lozano, are still pushing for a five-year contract. And the Phillies do not plan on presenting an offer of that length. The 33-year-old shortstop is also drawing free agent interest from the Brewers, but it's doubtful Milwaukee would give him five years either. Rollins batted just .268/.338/.399 this past season.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Cardinals are saying they have no plans to pursue Jimmy Rollins. ESPN's Buster Olney reported early Monday morning that the Cardinals and Brewers represented the Phillies' "primary competition" for Rollins. But Crasnick says St. Louis does not have interest at this point and won't suddenly gain interest even if Albert Pujols is unable to be re-signed. Rollins, 33, batted .268/.338.399 with 16 home runs and 30 steals in 142 games this past year for Philly. He's thought to be seeking a five-year contract.
