Angels signed RHP Jered Weaver to a five-year, $85 million extension. He also received a full no-trade clause. The deal takes care of his final year of arbitration and first four years of free agency. It averages $17 million a season, making Weaver the eighth highest-paid pitcher per year in the majors. The 12th overall pick in the 2004 draft has posted an incredible 2.10 ERA over 25 starts this year to go with a 7.6 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9.

Jered Weaver was smoked for a season-high eight runs over 4 2/3 innings in Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays. Needless to say, this was easily his worst start of the season. Working on seven days' rest following his suspension, Weaver gave up eight hits (including three home runs) while striking out three and walking a pair. He had gone at least six innings in each of his previous 24 starts this season. His ERA jumped from 1.78 to 2.13 in the loss. He'll try to get back on track next week against the first-place Rangers.

Angels ace Jered Weaver has dropped the appeal of his six-game suspension. Weaver appealed the suspension so that he could pitch Friday against the Mariners. It is believed that the decision came after his start on Friday, so he will be eligible to pitch next Saturday in Toronto.

Jered Weaver spun nine shutout innings Friday, limiting the Mariners to just seven hits and a walk while striking out eight in the 1-0 extra innings win. Weaver doesn't need to have all his stuff working to befuddle the Mariners' bats, but he had it going nonetheless in this one. Remarkably, it's the 15th time in 24 starts this season that he's given up one or zero runs. Weaver is expected to drop the appeal of his suspension following this start, so his next outing will likely come next weekend in Toronto. He'll take a 1.78 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 150/39 K/BB ratio north of the border.

Jered Weaver was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at Alex Avila's head during Sunday's game against the Tigers. Weaver took his frustrations out on Avila after the previous batter, Carlos Guillen, overtly admired his solo home run. The Angels' right-hander plans to appeal the suspension, so he should be able to make his next scheduled start Friday against the Mariners. Angels manager Mike Scioscia was also suspended one game.

Jered Weaver was ejected from Sunday's game against the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning after throwing at Alex Avila's head. Weaver was incensed after the previous batter, Carlos Guillen, admired his solo home run. Both benches were warned after some jawing back and forth, but Weaver then stupidly took out his frustrations on Avila, causing his exit from the ballgame. He gave up three runs and struck out eight over 6 2/3 innings before getting tossed.

The only damage he sustained was a solo home run by Matt Laporta in the seventh inning. Weave has won five straight starts and gone 8-0 overall since taking his last loss on May 18. He'll carry an AL-best 1.79 ERA into a start against the Tigers this weekend.

Jered Weaver scattered seven hits over seven innings and combined with two relievers on a shutout of the Rangers on Thursday. C.J. Wilson looked like the better pitcher in this one, but he was undone on an error in a 1-0 game. Weaver struck out six and walked two before Scott Downs and Jordan Walden finished up. He's won four straight starts and gone 7-0 overall since taking his last loss on May 18.
