Barrett got another save opportunity Wednesday, but allowed a two-run homer before being pulled after just 0.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Barrett walked Alejando De Aza to start the ninth, and then served up a two-run home run to pinch hitter Kelly Johnson for the blown save. Barrett wasn't even afforded the opportunity to finish the inning, and got pulled right after the homer. The D-Backs eventually came back to win the game in extra innings, but the poor outing doesn't bode well for Barrett, who has now blown four saves in just seven save opportunities. Barrett was recently named the full-time closer, but Wednesday marked his second rough outing in the past week. If Barrett retains the closer job after this recent implosion, he'll certainly be on thin ice moving forward. His ERA climbed to 3.80.

Barrett pitched a solid ninth inning Tuesday, walking just one batter and earning his 4th save of the season to help beat the Mets 5-3.
EDGE Analysis
Tuesday marked the first save opportunity since Barrett officially took over the closer role on July 31st. While he did have a four-run meltdown against the Nationals in a non-save situation on August 3rd, he has thrown three consecutive scoreless outings and lowered his ERA to 3.40. Barrett did blow three of the five save chances he was given before July 31st, and Tyler Clippard does have experience closing games, so Barrett probably doesn't have as long a leash as some other closers. Still, at the moment Barrett seems to be the man for Arizona.

Barrett got the final four outs Saturday versus Dodgers for his third save of the season. He gave up a solo homer and notched one strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
It was Barrett's second save of the month, both of which follow late-inning reliever Brad Ziegler's departure to Boston, and closer Tyler Clippard's recent struggles. The 25-year-old rookie is looking to steal the ninth-inning job from Clippard and his 2.79 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39 K's over 38.2 innings suggest that he's more than capable of closing the door for Arizona.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale indicated Saturday that Barrett would continue to receive regular save opportunities, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. "He earned it," Hale said.
EDGE Analysis
The Diamondbacks' trade earlier this month that sent Brad Ziegler to the Red Sox created a vacancy at the back end of the bullpen, and Barrett has emerged as the team's top reliever in that span. Though he served up a solo homer in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, it was the lone run he's given up over his last 10.2 innings, and he was still able to come away with his third save of the season. Veteran reliever Tyler Clippard remains the most obvious challenger for the closer's role, but it appears Barrett is locked in for the time being as Option 1A.

Barrett pitched a scoreless seventh inning in Thursday's loss to the Brewers, striking out one and walking one in the process.
EDGE Analysis
Barrett hasn't allowed an earned run in July as his scoreless streak has now reached 12 games (9.1 innings). With his ERA down to 2.65, Barrett is making the case to take the closer role away from Tyler Clippard. Such a scenario could happen quickly if Clippard is traded before the deadline.

Barrett pitched a perfect eighth inning in Sunday's win over the Reds. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Barrett has now strung together 10 consecutive scoreless outings and has his ERA down to 2.80. With Tyler Clippard (4.17 ERA) and Daniel Hudson (5.15 ERA) both struggling a bit at the back end of Arizona's bullpen, Barrett could work his way into the mix for saves, particularly if Clippard or Hudson (or both) are traded before the deadline.

Barrett worked around a pair of hits and retired two batters via strikeout en route to his second save of the season in Sunday's win over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Barrett came on after closer Tyler Clippard put three men on base, and although he immediately allowed a pair of inherited runners to score on a base hit, he was able to close out the game. Clippard is still presumed to be the main option for saves in the desert, but Barrett is clearly in the mix if the former makes a habit out of Sunday's struggles.

Barrett has a 1.50 ERA and 0.75 WHIP in 12 innings of action since being called up from Triple-A Reno on April 28.
EDGE Analysis
After his ERA reached 6.75 in less than three innings at the beginning of the season, Barrett has taken strides to make a name for himself in his inaugural MLB season. His superb 5.67 K/BB ratio is the best among Diamondbacks' relievers that have thrown 10 or more innings and his fastball is in the realm of 95 miles per hour. With an 8.05 K/9 and 1.0 HR/9, there's plenty of room for the rookie to continue improving, and he should have plenty of opportunities to do so, courtesy of his strong play as of late.

Barrett was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Barrett was solid earlier in the season with Arizona, allowing only three runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched. After Dominic Leone's struggles got him optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday, Barrett will slot back into the Diamondbacks bullpen to replace him. He'll likely be used in lower-leverage situations, but he could stick with the major league club for a longer period of time if he continues to find success against major league hitters.

Barrett was sent down to Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Barrett threw multiple innings on Saturday and won't be available for a couple of days, so he and Matt Buschmann are being replaced by the fresher arms for the time being. Both Barrett and Buschmann could be recalled to the Diamondbacks later this season.
