Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale indicated Saturday that Barrett would continue to receive regular save opportunities, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. "He earned it," Hale said.
EDGE Analysis
The Diamondbacks' trade earlier this month that sent Brad Ziegler to the Red Sox created a vacancy at the back end of the bullpen, and Barrett has emerged as the team's top reliever in that span. Though he served up a solo homer in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, it was the lone run he's given up over his last 10.2 innings, and he was still able to come away with his third save of the season. Veteran reliever Tyler Clippard remains the most obvious challenger for the closer's role, but it appears Barrett is locked in for the time being as Option 1A.
