Brett Anderson (foot) allowed five runs on five hits and two walks over just 3 1/3 innings in his first rehab start with High-A Stockton Thursday. Anderson did strike out six, but he served up two homers and clearly wasn't very sharp. He's now allowed seven runs on eight hits and five walks over 5 2/3 frames in his first two rehab outings. The A's reversed course and intend to bring Anderson back as a starter following the Bartolo Colon injury, but he doesn't look ready to rejoin the rotation anytime soon.

Brett Anderson (foot) could rejoin the A's after his rehab start on Thursday. Anderson just made his first rehab start on Saturday, but it could be a quick return for the lefty. A's manager Bob Melvin said he's unsure where Anderson will make the rehab start. The A's are looking for rotation help after Bartolo Colon went on the disabled list with a groin injury on Saturday.

Brett Anderson will convert back to a starting role on his minor league rehab assignment. Anderson was set be groomed to return as a reliever, but the groin injury to Bartolo Colon has prompted the A's to explore all their options for replacing him in the starting rotation. Anderson will start for Triple-A Sacramento and go three innings on Saturday. With Colon's return date unknown and Tommy Milone making the start on Sunday it's still unclear what Anderson's exact position will be upon activation. He's still a couple weeks away.

Brett Anderson (foot) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Sacramento. It will be his first game action since he suffered a right ankle/foot injury in May. Athletics manager Bob Melvin suggested that Anderson will be used as a reliever when he returns from the disabled list.

Steve Kroner of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Athletics manager Bob Melvin "strongly suggested" Tuesday that the team plans to bring Brett Anderson (foot) back as a reliever. It's been looking that was since last month when Anderson said he'd be fine coming back in a relief role. He's obviously plenty good enough to start and would on most teams, but the A's are blessed with a plethora of rotation options and can afford to ease Anderson back in. He'll throw two innings in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

Brett Anderson (foot) will throw simulated games Saturday and Tuesday. This comes on the heels of a two-inning simulated game earlier this week. It's possible the A's will send Anderson on a rehab assignment after Tuesday, but there's no set plan yet.

Brett Anderson (foot) threw 31 pitches in a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday. Anderson is scheduled to throw another simulated game on Saturday. The Athletics aren't going to rush him back, but he could be ready for a rehab assignment after that. The southpaw would be a nice boost to the rotation if he can return for the stretch run.

Brett Anderson (foot) will throw a simulated game Tuesday. Anderson has been throwing bullpen sessions since last month, but it will be his first game action since being placed on the disabled list. Assuming he avoids setbacks, he should then be sent on a rehab assignment before returning sometime in mid-August.
