Alex Avila blasted two home runs in Sunday's win against the Royals.
The veteran catcher finished 2-for-4 with all three RBI in Detroit's 3-2 victory. Avila entered September batting just .207, but he's been raking ever since the calender turned. Avila is 14-for-34 (.412) with two homers and six RBI this month to raise his batting average to .222.

Alex Avila went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored against the White Sox on Tuesday.
Avila's four-hit game was his first of the season but was his third game with three hits or more since the beginning of September. His hitting binge -- he's now 11-for-22 in the month -- has raised his average from .207 to .221 in that span. The runs batted in gave him 42 RBI in 85 games this year.

Tigers activated C Alex Avila from the 15-day disabled list.
Avila has been sidelined since August 10 with a concussion, but he didn't report any issues after catching seven innings on back-to-back nights during his rehab stint. The 26-year-old is batting just .198/.288/.340 over 73 games this season, though he was showing signs of a turnaround prior to going on the disabled list.

Alex Avila (concussion) caught seven innings and went 2-for-3 with two walks in a rehab game with Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Avila was pulled from his first rehab game on Thursday due to a headache, but he has now caught seven innings in back-to-back days. "There's a strong possibility that if everything's OK and he doesn't have any symptoms, I think there's a possibility that he could return very, very soon," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland. "We'll just have to wait and see."

Alex Avila (concussion) will catch seven innings with Triple-A Toledo on Monday before being reevaluated.
Avila was removed from his first rehab game on Thursday due to a headache, but he played on Saturday and Sunday without issue. It sounds like he could be cleared to return if there are no setbacks Monday, but that's obviously far from a guarantee.

The Tigers are being extremely cautious with Avila, who has been sidelined with concussion symptoms since August 10. He was able to catch three innings in Thursday's game before being removed, and could return to the lineup as a DH on Saturday.

Avila has been shut down since being placed on the 7-day DL on Sunday. The Tigers will known more on his after he undergoes further tests. Brayan Pena will continue to replace him in the starting lineup.
