Avila is not in the lineup for game one of the doubleheader against the White Sox. Avila will get the day game off Saturday, allowing Bryan Holaday to get the start behind the plate for the first game. He will likely be back in there for the second game, however.

Avila will sit in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, MLive's Chris Iott reports. No surprise here, as he started the first half of the twin bill. He has been a solid source of power in deep leagues, but the batting average will always be a drain. Bryan Holaday gets the start behind the dish for the evening game.

Avila is out of Friday's lineup against the Twins. This is just a standard day off for Avila, with Bryan Holaday setting up behind the dish Friday. Avila really only has value in deeper leagues, as he's batting just .219 with 10 homers in 100 games.

Avila is out of the lineup Friday against the Mariners. Avila's four-game hitting streak ended Thursday and he will now take a day off with the left-handed James Paxton on the mound Friday. Bryan Holaday will start behind the plate for the Tigers in his place and bat eighth.

Avila went 1-for-3 with a solo shot in Wednesday's win over Pittsburgh. Wednesday's home was Avila's 10th of the season, just one fewer than he hit in all of 2013. Avila's overall slash line (.226/.328/.391) remains disappointing, but much like last season, the 27-year-old catcher is showing signs of life in the second half of the season. In 36 at-bats this month, Avila is hitting .306/.375/.639 with three home runs and seven RBI. He remains a risky option for shallow, one-catcher mixed leagues, but deeper formats may want to take a look at the Tigers catcher while he's swinging a hot bat.

Avila is out of the lineup Saturday vs. the Blue Jays. With the Tigers getting up bright and early for an afternoon tilt following Friday's night game, Avila will simply receive the day off. Bryan Holaday handles catching duties for the Tigers.

Avila went 2-for-5 with two RBI in an extra-innings win over the Yankees on Tuesday. The catcher put the Tigers on his back in this one, singling in the game-tying run in the seventh before swatting the game-winning homer in the 12th. He's now hitting .220 with eight homers, 31 RBI, 34 runs and a BB:K of 39:105 in 277 at-bats this season.

Alex Avila will return to the Tigers starting lineup for Sunday night's contest against the Red Sox. Avila suffered a minor concussion when he was hit in the head by David Ortiz's backswing during Friday's game and sat out on Saturday as a precautionary measure. He'll hit eighth against opposing hurler John Lackey on Sunday.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said after Friday's game that Alex Avila sustained a minor concussion when hit in the head by the backswing of David Ortiz, and that the veteran catcher would not play on Saturday. It's unclear beyond that how much time Avila may have to miss. Bryan Holaday will serve as the Tigers primary backstop for as long as he remains sidelined.

Alex Avila was removed from Friday's game against the Red Sox in the eighth inning after being hit in the head by the backswing of David Ortiz. Avila has certainly taken a beating behind the plate this season, and was likely removed as a precautionary measure to be checked for a concussion. Bryan Holaday took his place behind the dish and should be expected to get the start in his place on Saturday.
