Adam Wainwright was hammered in a no-decision against the Nationals on Friday, allowing six runs on seven hits in just 2 2/3 innings of work.
Wainwright struck out five without issuing a free pass in the disappointing outing. The Nationals jumped all over him in the first inning, with a leadoff double from Jayson Werth, RBI triple from Bryce Harper and two-run bomb off the bat of Ryan Zimmerman. It marked the first time in 12 career postseason games that Wainwright had allowed more than one run in an inning. He battled back to strike out the side, but the damage had been done. The Nats' weren't done yet though, as Bryce Harper smashed a solo homer in the third and Mike Morse added a towering two-run shot to chase Wainwright from the game. It's surely would have been a disappointing way to end his season, but an epic rally from the Cardinals' offense saved their season. Wainwright will now get the opportunity to redeem himself when he takes on the Giants in Game 3 of the NLCS.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Adam Wainwright would not start on short rest if the team advances to the NLCS.
Wainwright would be available for Game 3 and then a potential Game 7 of the NLCS on regular rest, but the Cards currently have Kyle Lohse lined up for those starts and have no plans to alter things. "Given where he is and what he's experienced, we think that's the prudent stance to take," general manager John Mozeliak said of Wainwright. "We've watched him closely and listen to what he has to say about how he feels. Based on that, we don't see a need to change anything."

Adam Wainwright struck out 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings Sunday in the Cardinals' NLDS Game 1 loss.
Waino was lethal with his curveball and limited the visiting Nationals to just one earned run, but the St. Louis bullpen blew it in the eighth inning. The 10 strikeouts were the most by a Cardinals pitcher since Bob Gibson fanned 17 Tigers in Game 4 of the 1968 World Series.

Adam Wainwright will start for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Nationals.
He'll be followed by Jaime Garcia in Game 2 at home, then Chris Carpenter for Game 3 in Washington. If the series requires a fourth game, Kyle Lohse would get the call. Wainwright would go again if a fifth game is necessary.

Adam Wainwright pitched decently in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits over his seven innings of work.
Wainwright whiffed five while also walking two on the afternoon. The Cubs got on the board when Travis Wood scored on a wild pitch in the third inning, then broke it open with three in the sixth, highlighted by a solo homer from David DeJesus. He's had his ups and downs in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, but has solid numbers overall, owning a 13-13 record, 4.02 ERA and 179/51 K/BB ratio in 192 2/3 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column when he does battle against the Nationals at home on Friday.

Adam Wainwright allowed five earned runs in six innings Tuesday in the Cardinals' loss to the Padres.
Wainwright actually looked sharp through the first three innings, but some bad plays defensively in the fourth seemed to throw off his rhythm and he wound up yielding five runs before recording the frame's final out. The right-hander had a 3.65 ERA on August 21. It's now 4.01. The Dodgers are up next.

Adam Wainwright pitched his second shutout of the season in Tuesday night's 7-0 stomping of the Astros.
Wainwright yielded just five hits and needed only 104 pitches despite matching his career-high with 12 strikeouts. The right-hander suddenly has a sparkling 3.65 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 8.64 K/9 on the year. That K/9 would match his career-high from 2006, when he was in the Cardinals' bullpen. He'll take on the Reds next.

Waino allowed just five hits and fanned seven without issuing a walk. It was his second complete game of the season. The 30-year-old right-hander has suddenly found some consistency and appears ready to dominate down the stretch. He'll face the Phillies next.
