Adam Wainwright held the Rockies to one run on eight hits in six innings of work Wednesday, improving to 7-8 in St. Louis' 4-1 victory. He struck out seven and walked one in his fourth quality start in five outings. Wainwright still doesn't look quite all the way back as he completes his comeback from Tommy John surgery, but is clearly going to be an above-average roto asset in the second half. For his career, he's the owner of a 2.78 ERA in 369 innings after the Midsummer Classic.

Adam Wainwright yielded two runs over seven innings in Saturday's win over the Royals. Wainwright scattered six hits while striking out four and walking one. He held the Royals scoreless until giving up two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Wainwright has endured some ups and downs in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, but he has allowed three earned runs or less in seven out of his last eight starts, lowering his ERA from 6.16 to 4.32 in the process. We think he'll continue to get better as the season moves along. He'll get the Pirates next week.

Adam Wainwright struggled against the Mets on Friday, allowing seven runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings of work. Wainwright struck out six and walked three in the game. The Mets strung together a couple of baserunners in the fourth inning to push two runs across, then the crushing blow came courtesy of a three-run blast from Lucas Duda in the sixth inning. He allowed two runners to reach in the seventh inning before being removed, both of which came around to score. Wainwright has pitched better of late, but is still struggling to find consistency from start to start. The loss drops him to 4-6 on the season and raises his ERA back up to 4.98. He'll attempt to put this start behind him and get back on track when he takes on the Astros in Houston on Wednesday.

Adam Wainwright yielded five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Braves. Wainwright allowed two singles and walked three before recording an out in the first inning, again struggling with his consistency and command. The 30-year-old right-hander is still rebuilding his arm strength in his first year back from Tommy John surgery and might not make for a great fantasy starter until June or July.

Adam Wainwright told reporters after his solid Sunday start that he's "pretty close" to his old form. Wainwright allowed just one run over seven innings of work to the Astros, fanning seven Houston hitters while issuing just one walk. It was easily his best start since returning from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, though he's looked progressively sharper in recent outings. The right-hander still owns a rough 5.61 ERA on the year, but it's dropping. Now would be the time to buy-low on Waino.

Adam Wainwright had his best start of the season in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Astros, allowing just one run on seven hits in seven innings of work. Wainwright struck out seven and walked one in allowing fewer than three runs for just the second time in six starts. Wainwright has still yet to come close to flashing his dominant 2009-10 form, but has now completed seven innings of work in back-to-back outings, and lowered his ERA from 9.88 to 5.61 over his past three starts. He should only continue to get better. He'll get the hot-hitting Braves at home next weekend.

Adam Wainwright allowed four earned runs in seven innings Tuesday night against the Pirates. Waino finally got some run support and was able to collect his first victory since the 2010 season, but he still struggled with consistency. The 30-year-old right-hander yielded two home runs and five hits. He also struck out six and walked just one. The Astros are his next opponent.

Adam Wainwright held the Cubs to one earned run over six innings Tuesday in a no-decision. It was easily Wainwright's best outing of the season. He yielded six hits but operated well in damage control, fanning seven Cubs hitters while walking just one. The 30-year-old right-hander should continue to improve as he moves further and further away from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. He'll get the Pirates next.

Adam Wainwright insists that he feels fine physically but has struggled because he's simply not executing. "That's a crutch that I'm not going to stand on," Wainwright said about blaming his Tommy John surgery. "At some point, I've got to turn the page on that (surgery) and go out and execute whether I'm feeling great or not. I feel like I normally would. I'm just not executing. I'm missing a beat but I don't think I should be." Wainwright looked good in spring training, but he holds a 9.88 ERA and is 0-3 in his first three starts. We fully expect him to find his form eventually, but he's a risky fantasy proposition right now.

Adam Wainwright was pounded for eight runs in three innings by the Cubs in a loss Friday. Wainwright probably didn't deserve to give up a grand slam to Bryan LaHair in the third -- it was wind-aided and still barely cleared the fence -- but he still wasn't any good today. Here's to hoping he gains a bit of velocity in the coming weeks, or it could be a long season for his owners.
