Wainwright admitted after that he's probably not ready for games yet but is clearly getting closer as he's progressed through his rehab thus far with no setbacks. It could be near a week yet before Wainwright gets into a spring game.

Wainwright tossed a bullpen session Monday after an abdomen injury earlier in camp, and appears to be progressing towards a return. He should slot in as the Cardinals' ace once again in 2015, and it seems plausible he'll be ready for Opening Day.

Wainwright was limited in his non-throwing workouts because of the pain and will see a specialist Thursday. Wainwright insisted that he had no soreness or pain in his arm and that throwing did not bring on the abdominal pain. Obviously there is some cause for concern if he needs to see a specialist but the fact that he can throw without pain is a bit of a silver lining.

It remains to be seen if the Cards will actually scale back Wainwright's regular season innings as has been suggested during the winter, but short of putting him at the back end of the schedule for the Grapefruit League rotation, things appear to be business as usual for Wainwright as spring training begins.
