Wainwright (elbow) should be able to resume throwing in eight weeks and is expected to be ready for spring training, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. Just days after GM John Mozeliak said doctors had prescribed Wainwright rest, the Cards' ace underwent surgery to "trim" a piece of cartilage from his right elbow. Apparently, following a second opinion, it was determined surgery was the best way to address the issue. The belief is that Wainwright's elbow issues were the result of his massive workload over the past two seasons -- he's thrown 519.2 innings since the starts of 2013 -- and while he is expected to be ready to go come spring training, Mozeliak has said the team will be more deliberate in curtailing his workload next season.
