Wainwright left Saturday's game after suffering an apparent injury during an at-bat in the fifth inning. It could have been an Achilles injury, but that's just speculation for now. He allowed three hits with four strikeouts but managed to face the minimum through four innings against the Brewers. We will update his status when an injury report becomes available.

Wainwright was dominant against the Reds on Sunday night, holding them to one run on seven hits and two walks, striking out four over eight innings. He was able to earn the win when the Cards rallied for their second run in the eighth inning. Though he remains an ace, one thing that keeps Wainwright a little behind others in the first tier is the lack of strikeouts - after Sunday's outing, he has just 14 in 21 innings.

Wainwright gave up five runs (three earned) over seven innings to lose Monday's home opener to the Brewers. He allowed eight hits and a walk while striking out four. He was betrayed by the defense of Kolten Wong in this one, as Wong committed two errors that led to the two unearned runs. Wainwright will face the Reds next over the weekend.

Wainwright's next start will come Monday at home against the Brewers. Tuesday's game was postponed due to weather, and rather than just skip Carlos Martinez this time through the rotation, the team will have Martinez start the finale against Cincinnati on Sunday and have Wainwright take the bump for the home opener. Wainwright blanked the Cubs over six innings in his debut Sunday and went 3-1 with a 2.97 ERA and 19 strikeouts in four starts (30.1 innings) against Milwaukee last year.

Wainwright was inefficient but very effective in his Opening Day start Sunday against the Cubs, tossing six scoreless innings surrendering five hits without issuing a walk and striking out six. Wainwright needed 101 pitches to get through six and the Cardinals improved bullpen came in and did the job expected of it, shutting out the Cubs over the final three frames with six more strikeouts and two walks. Wainwright will likely need more help from his bullpen this year and they should deliver more often than not.

Wainwright will face the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Opening Day, MLB.com's Jennifer Langosch reports. Opening Day for the Cardinals will actually be April 5, as they're scheduled to face Jon Lester and the Cubs in the first game of the 2015 MLB season. There was never any doubt Wainwright would get the nod, as there haven't been any reports of issues with his abdomen since mid-March.

Wainwright made his first start of the spring Saturday, throwing four shutout innings and allowing just four hits and walk to go with three strikeouts. Wainwright threw 64 pitches in total, 41 for strikes, and put to rest any doubts that he'd be ready as the staff ace come Opening Day.

Wainwright pitched well in a simulated game Monday and is hoping to pitch in his first spring training game some time next week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Manager Mike Matheny will likely reveal his pitching plans for next week on Tuesday. Wainwright threw 50 pitches on Monday and was able to use an assortment of pitches. He looks to be on track for opening day.

Wainwright (abdomen) will face minor league hitters in a simulated game Monday, the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports. It is unclear when he will be able to take the mound in a spring game, but it is good to hear he is continuing to pitch. There does not seem to be much concern out of the Cardinals' camp about Wainwright's availability for the start of the season. There is a gray cloud hanging over his fantasy outlook this season in many circles, and if his price falls too far, there is a prime buying opportunity here.

Wainwright (abdomen) is not scheduled to pitch in any of the Cardinals next five games, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It looks like it will be some time late next week before Wainwright likely gets back into the rotation for the Cardinals. The veteran ace hasn't had any setbacks thus far and still should be on track for an opening day start.
