Wainwright left Saturday's game after suffering an apparent injury during an at-bat in the fifth inning. It could have been an Achilles injury, but that's just speculation for now. Wainwright was inefficient but very effective in his Opening Day start Sunday against the Cubs, tossing six scoreless innings surrendering five hits without issuing a walk and striking out six. Wainwright needed 101 pitches to get through six and the Cardinals improved bullpen came in and did the job expected of it, shutting out the Cubs over the final three frames with six more strikeouts and two walks. Wainwright will likely need more help from his bullpen this year and they should deliver more often than not.

Opening Day for the Cardinals will actually be April 5, as they're scheduled to face Jon Lester and the Cubs in the first game of the 2015 MLB season. There was never any doubt Wainwright would get the nod, as there haven't been any reports of issues with his abdomen since mid-March.

He looks to be on track for opening day.

Wainwright (abdomen) will face minor league hitters in a simulated game Monday, the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports. It is unclear when he will be able to take the mound in a spring game, but it is good to hear he is continuing to pitch. There does not seem to be much concern out of the Cardinals' camp about Wainwright's availability for the start of the season. There is a gray cloud hanging over his fantasy outlook this season in many circles, and if his price falls too far, there is a prime buying opportunity here.
