Sanchez (3-3) was tagged for five runs on seven hits and four walks in 5.2 innings during Wednesday's loss in Baltimore. He struck out just one batter. Sanchez has had some better games, but it's hard to ignore that he now owns 25 strikeouts to go with a stunning 29 walks in 38 innings this year. It's clear that the 22-year-old isn't quite ready for an MLB rotation yet; the question is whether the Jays will be willing to send him to Triple-A to get his control issues figured out. For now, he's scheduled to go again Monday against the Angels.

Sanchez tossed seven shutout innings against the Red Sox on Friday night, allowing two hits and five walks to go with three strikeouts. Seven shutout innings and allowing just a pair of hits is the good news, but five walks (and a hit batsman) underscore Sanchez' Achilles heal. He's already walked 25 in just 32.1 innings. Now 3-2 with a respectable 3.62 ERA, he's going to have to start throwing strikes if he wants to hold his rotation spot over the long haul.

Sanchez battled his control but still picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and six walks over 5.2 innings, striking out five. His 4.62 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 21:20 K:BB ratio through 25.1 innings really aren't acceptable, and Sanchez's spot in the Jays' rotation is in definite jeopardy if he can't find the plate on a more regular basis.

The Blue Jays have discussed moving Sanchez back to the bullpen, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports. The book on Sanchez hasn't changed much, as he still has trouble controlling his mid-to-high 90s heat. It doesn't sound as if any kind of change is imminent, but should the young right-hander continue to struggle, he'll likely find himself back in the bullpen. Such a development might actually be a good thing for owners, given that Sanchez would be a potential ninth-inning candidate in a bullpen that's still trying to figure out roles. He was expected by some to open this season as the Jays' closer, until Marcus Stroman's season-ending torn ACL left a gap in the rotation. The Blue Jays still don't have strong alternatives for the starting rotation, but it can't get too much worse than what we've seen from Sanchez thus far.

Sanchez took a no-decision Monday, allowing four runs -- three earned -- in 5.2 innings against Boston. Sanchez was touched up a couple of times by the Red Sox in this one, but did strike out seven in the outing. After one month, the 22-year-old registered a 5.03 ERA and failed to finish six innings in a start. He'll look to start May on a high note when he faces the Indians this weekend.

Sanchez (1-2) managed to work around a whopping seven walks to allow just two runs over 5.1 innings Wednesday in a win over Baltimore. He struck out four and allowed just two hits. One of the two hits was a two-run homer by Jimmy Paredes, which ended up being all the damage against Sanchez. Nonetheless, after throwing just 43 of his 83 pitches for strikes, Sanchez can't be feeling like his first win of the year was much of a step forward. He now owns a hideous 9:12 K:BB to go with his 5.14 ERA and 1.86 WHIP; in short, it simply doesn't look like the young righty is ready to be a starting pitcher in the big leagues.

Sanchez allowed three runs on five hits and three walks to go along with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings Thursday against the Rays. Sanchez left in the sixth after giving up a double to Evan Longoria and getting Desmond Jennings to ground out to second. The 22-year-old is now 0-2 for the season, and he'll get another chance to pick up his first win when he faces off against the Orioles in his next start Wednesday.

Sanchez has earned a spot in the Blue Jays' starting rotation, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports. Sanchez entered camp as a potential closer for the Blue Jays, but a major knee injury for Marcus Stroman led to him moving in to the rotation. Unfortunately, his value will drop slightly with the move to the rotation, but he can now be considered a starting pitcher with a decent amount of upside.

Sanchez's chances of starting the season in the Jays' rotation increased significantly Tuesday as the team announced that Marcus Stroman will miss the 2015 season with a torn left ACL. Sanchez could have made the rotation even if Stroman did not get hurt, but it now seems like everything points to both Sanchez and Daniel Norris making the rotation out of camp. Marco Estrada is also in the picture, but it seems like the Jays would be better off going with their two youngsters if they prove up to the task. For those who still have to draft, Sanchez should now be viewed as a high-upside starting pitcher, although he also carries some risk, especially in the WHIP department. Brett Cecil is now the in-house favorite to close, although the conventional wisdom suggests Toronto may initiate talks with Rafael Soriano now that Sanchez is no longer an option at the back of the bullpen.
