Sanchez's chances of starting the season in the Jays' rotation increased significantly Tuesday as the team announced that Marcus Stroman will miss the 2015 season with a torn left ACL.
Sanchez could have made the rotation even if Stroman did not get hurt, but it now seems like everything points to both Sanchez and Daniel Norris making the rotation out of camp. Marco Estrada is also in the picture, but it seems like the Jays would be better off going with their two youngsters if they prove up to the task. For those who still have to draft, Sanchez should now be viewed as a high-upside starting pitcher, although he also carries some risk, especially in the WHIP department. Brett Cecil is now the in-house favorite to close, although the conventional wisdom suggests Toronto may initiate talks with Rafael Soriano now that Sanchez is no longer an option at the back of the bullpen.
