He shook off two early goals - including one just 40 seconds in - to get that sorely needed victory. Thomas isn't the most glamorous fantasy option, but as a third goalie, he's probably worth the highs and lows.

Florida goalie Tim Thomas steered aside 25 shots but allowed four goals as the Panthers were edged 4-3 by the Rangers in New York Sunday night. Thomas, in his second straight start after returning from injury not only lost but also took a roughing penalty when he punched the Rangers' J.T. Miller in the head after Miller crashed into him.

Although it is far from certain, it is likely that Tim Thomas will get the start Saturday afternoon against Ottawa. Thomas seems to have recovered sufficiently form a leg injury and with a new coaching regime in Florida looking to placate a disgruntled fanbase, this would be the perfect time to turn to Thomas.

Tim Thomas isn't expected to be available for Thursday's game in Boston. George Richards of the Miami Herald tweeted Wednesday that the Panthers hope to have the 39-year-old goaltender back this weekend. Florida plays Ottawa (Saturday) and the New York Rangers (Sunday) to close out there three-game road trip.

Tim Thomas won't be available for Tuesday night's game. Coach Kevin Dineen said that Thomas will travel with the Panthers on their upcoming trip. Florida begins their three-game road swing in Boston on Thursday.

Tim Thomas' aversion to Washington continues. He will not travel with his Florida teammates for Saturday night's game against the Capitals as he is still recovering from a leg injury. If you recall, Thomas turned down an invitation to the White House when the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. He just doesn't seem to like to go to DC.
