Steve Mason was saddled again with the loss Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Mason should be dropped in all scoring formats if you need the extra roster space for someone who will actually be able to help your team.

Steve Mason will be in goal on Saturday when Columbus takes on the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Mason is coming off one of his worst performances of his career as he gave up four goals on only 11 shots to the Maple Leafs Thursday but coach Scott Arniel is going right back to him. "I know most people would probably say 'give it to the kid,' but that's the first time, last night, where Mase has really been responsible for a loss," Arniel said Friday. Stay tuned as it may be an offensive explosion for the Flyers, or Mason possibly could bounce back.

Steve Mason hasn't lost his job as the team's top goaltender yet.
Mason has a 2-9-1 record, 3.36 GAA, and .880 save percentage in 12 starts, but coach Scott Arniel is sticking with him. "It's all about what's going to give us the best chance to win in Philadelphia," Arniel said. "Does Steve give that to us? I'd like to think he does, over a kid that's got one and half games of NHL experience (Allen York)." It sounds like Arniel's argument boils down to the fact that the Blue Jackets really don't have a viable backup. That might change when Mark Dekanich returns from a high-ankle sprain.

Steve Mason was pulled Thursday night in the Blue Jackets' 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Mason allowed four goals on 11 shots before being pulled for Allen York who managed to stop all the shots he faced. Mason can no longer be viewed as a very low-end second goalie and should be dropped in all scoring formats if you need the extra roster space for someone who will actually be able to help your team.

Steve Mason successfully blocked 19 of 20 shots in the Blue Jackets' 3-1 win over Anaheim Sunday night.
The win was just Mason's second of the year, but he has begun to play better of late, as have his teammates. He's still not a goaltender we have much faith in at the moment, but you can ride the short-term wave while it lasts.

Steve Mason allowed four goals on 26 shots in Columbus's 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night.
Mason was a risky fantasy option coming into the season given how inconsistent he has been over the last two seasons and if you drafted him, the gamble has not paid off. He can no longer be viewed as a very low-end second goalie and should be dropped in all scoring formats. Mark Dekanich (when healthy) might steal his job down the line.

Steve Mason took part in Wednesday's practice.
Mason missed 2:33 minutes on Tuesday because of a shoulder injury. "I felt good, the shoulder's fine and I wanted to be out there," Mason said. He will probably start in Thursday's game against Buffalo.

Steve Mason blocked 30 of 31 shots to earn a 4-1 victory over Detroit Tuesday night.
It's about time! Despite the fact that he suffered through a sub-par season last year, expectations for Mason were slightly higher this fall thanks to the offseason moves made by the Jackets. He has been quite underwhelming all season, but until Mark Dekanich is fit to return from his ankle injury, Mason has little competition for the number one gig.

Blue Jackets goaltender Steve Mason was forced to leave Tuesday's game against Detroit in the first period, but later returned to the game.
Mason went to the dressing room late in the opening frame with the Jackets ahead 2-1 and was replaced by Allen York for the remainder of the period, but he emerged from the locker room to start the second and appears no worse for the wear. Mason owners seem to have dodged a bullet.

Goaltender Steve Mason is scheduled to start his ninth straight game tonight, despite a poor performance in his last start.
Mason allowed four goals on 27 shots in the Jackets' loss Saturday and he is 0-7-1 on the season. Despite this, he will start once again tonight, against the Detroit Red Wings in Columbus. Regardless of how Mason plays tonight, Allen York, Mason's backup, likely will give Mason a breather in goal when Columbus plays next.
