Mason (illness) was tagged for five goals on 32 shots in his return to the net Thursday, taking a home loss to the Capitals.
EDGE Analysis
Usually, the Caps are scary primarily because of Alex Ovechkin, but their superstar only took two shots on goal in a scoreless effort. Instead, Mason yielded two goals to Jason Chimera on the power play en route to his fourth consecutive loss. Of course, there had been a 10-day interim between Thursday's game and Mason's last turn; sure, you can cut him some slack for the illness, but that doesn't excuse the rest of what's been a poor first month-plus of they ear.

Mason (illness) will return to the net for Thursday's game against the Capitals, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason didn't start any of the last four games for a combination of rest and an illness. However, it appears it's behind him just in time, as Michal Neuvirth reportedly suffered an injury of some kind in the third period of Tuesday's game. Mason will take over the duties in net, but it's a bit unclear at this point who will be backing him up. The netminder has struggled through eight games this season, posting a 3.34 GAA and .902 save percentage, and things won't get any easier Thursday as he faces one of the most powerful offenses in the Capitals.

Mason practiced Friday, though he is believed to be dealing with a virus, and likely will give way to Michal Neuvirth for a start in goal Saturday against the Jets, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason was expected to work between the pipes Thursday versus the Flames, but Neuvirth drew the start instead. With Mason day-to-day, look for the Flyers to shed more light on his availability closer to the opening faceoff Saturday evening.

Mason is expected to start in net Thursday evening against the Flames, Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has started seven of the eight games he has appeared in this season. Over that span, the 27-year-old has turned in a 3.34 GAA and .902 save percentage. Unfortunately for Mason and fellow goalie Michal Neuvirth, the Philly skaters in front of them are allowing 34.7 shots against per game which is currently the worst in the league.

Mason turned aside 30 of 33 shots in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Canucks.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has struggled mightily this year, though due to the high volume of shots, Monday's performance marked a step in the right direction in his rate stats. At this point, backup goalie Michal Neuvirth boasts a GAA that's almost two full goals better than Mason's, so it's possible the number of starts each receives could change if the recent trends continue.

Mason will start in net against Vancouver on Monday, Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has had a rough start to the campaign, registering a .900 save percentage while allowing 3.39 goals per game. While backup Michal Neuvirth has been playing phenomenally this season, Mason should have earned enough faith from the organization through his strong play over the past two seasons plus to maintain his starting role for the foreseeable future. That being said, Mason's play has not shown any signs of improving, even if he continues to receive starts.

Mason allowed three goals on 32 shots in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Devils.
EDGE Analysis
Two of the Devils' goals were on the man advantage and the final score came on an Andy Greene empty-netter, so overall it wasn't a terrible night for Mason. He'd probably like to have Kyle Palmieri's goal back, but the Flyers' defense needs to step up. Mason's job as the starting goaltender isn't in jeopardy, but with backup Michal Neuvirth playing well, he may see more time in net. With Philadelphia heading to Buffalo to face the Sabres on Friday, expect Neuvirth to get the green light.

Mason will work as the starting goalie Thursday night against the Devils, Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason is still looking for his first career win against the Devils despite having faced them seven times, carrying a 3.78 GAA and .852 save percentage over that span. This is the third straight start for Mason, as fellow netminder Michal Neuvirth is still ailing with a lower-body injury.

Mason stopped 36 shots Tuesday, but gave up four goals in an overtime loss to the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
The Flyers' porous defense has made Mason's job rather difficult in the early going -- he's faced at least 32 shots in each of his five starts, with the lone exception being Oct. 10 against Florida, when Mason was bombarded by eight shots (four of which got past him) in 6:46 before being pulled. It's clear that Mason hasn't been nearly as sharp so far this year as he was en route to last year's spectacular (if ultimately fruitless) rate stats, but it's still a small sample. Considering that Mason hasn't finished with a save percentage under .917 since joining the Flyers, he's a good bet to bounce back.

Mason will be the starting goalie for the Flyers in Tuesday evening's game against the Sabres, John Vogl of Buffalo News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has played well in the last two contests for Philadelphia, earning two wins and giving up two goals in each game. His stats for the season (0.899 save percentage and 3.32 GAA) could be a little misleading as he had one terrible outing on Oct. 10 against Florida and he's only played in five games to date. He draws a nice matchup Tuesday night with a Sabres team that has tallied just 16 goals through eight games and are currently sitting in last place in the Atlantic Division.
