On the one hand, that's about as Herculean a goalie performance as you can ask for in a loss. On the other, the Flyers -- who are desperately clawing for a wild-card berth -- had a 2-0 lead with just over a minute left in this game, only to see Mason give up two late goals to send it to overtime. To be fair, it's hard to fault Mason on either goal, especially the first one, which happened when a horrendously dysfunctional Flyers power-play unit allowed the shorthanded Jackets to control the puck in their zone until Boone Jenner ultimately deflected a puck in.

Mason, who stopped 23 of 24 shots in Monday's win over the Islanders, will remain in the Flyers' net Tuesday, and is set to face former teammate Sergei Bobrovsky in the process. Tuesday's assignment seems to confirm that the Flyers are likely to lean heavily on Mason (backed up by Anthony Stolarz) down the NHL stretch run, with fellow goalie Michal Neuvirth out for the rest of the regular season.

Mason has been outstanding of late, as he's recorded victories in four of his last five contests and earned the team nine points in the standings. The netminder will need some help from his defenseman, however, if they are going to get the win against the rival Penguins. In his previous matchup with Pittsburgh, the 27-year-old was peppered with shots, ultimately facing 45 pucks and allowing four to find the back of the net.
