Monahan (back) will miss Wednesday's contest against Arizona, Derek Wills of 960 The Fan reports.
EDGE Analysis
Monahan has been steadily improving and could return to action for the Flames preseason finale on Thursday. Regardless of his status for that game, fantasy owners primary concern will be his availability for Opening Night which appears to be on track. The 21-year-old offers top tier fantasy value and is capable of logging his third consecutive season of at least 60 points this year.

Monahan (back) joined the regular game group for practice Sunday but sported a non-contact jersey while doing so, Roger Millions of Sportsnet Calgrary reports.
EDGE Analysis
Monahan skated by himself Tuesday and has now progressed to the point of rejoining his teammates on the ice. The Flames are playing it safe with Monahan after watching the stud pivot strain his back while training earlier this month. Monahan has done light skating and solo drills this week as he looks to fully recover from an offseason back injury, the Calgary Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Monahan decided against participating in the World Cup of Hockey due to his strained back, which seems like a wise decision given that the international tournament promises to be highly physical and several players have already withdrawn from the event due to injuries. Having signed a seven-year, $44.625 million contract extension this summer, the Flames will be expecting a huge season from Monahan, the sixth overall pick of 2013. He'll patrol the top line and first power-play unit with the help of proven playmaker Johnny Gaudreau at left wing.

Monahan won't play for Team North America at the upcoming World Cup of Hockey due to a back strain, Wes Gilbertson of Postmedia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Monahan's ailment isn't expected to keep him sidelined for long, so this is probably just a precautionary move for the 21-year-old forward. It seems likely that the Flames, who signed Monahan to a seven-year, $44.1 million contract extension in August, also played a part in Monahan's decision to back out of the World Cup, as they certainly don't want their No. 1 center to risk further injury ahead of the 2016-17 NHL campaign. The Flames should provide an update on Monahan's status ahead of Calgary's first preseason contest, which is set to take place on Sep. 26 against the Oilers.

EDGE Analysis
According to General Fanager, Monahan will make $44.1 million over the life of the contract, which takes him through the 2022-23 season. Just 21 year old, the burgeoning center has amassed 58 goals and 67 helpers between the last two campaigns while thriving on the top power-play unit with Johnny Gaudreau, a restricted free agent likely next in line for a new deal from the Flames.

Monahan was extended a qualifying offer Monday by the Flames.
EDGE Analysis
Monahan makes up a youthful core of players in Calgary that are turning the team into a serious playoff contender. Centering the dynamic Johnny Gaudreau, the 21-year-old tallied 27 goals and 36 assists while firing off 197 shots on goal. If the organization can't sign him to a long term deal on their own, they can certainly expect Monahan to receive a significant offer that they will be forced to match to avoid losing him.

Monahan's shoulder injury suffered in the season finale is not serious, Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 reports.
EDGE Analysis
Monahan ended the season on an absolute tear and finished with 27 goals and 36 assists in 81 games. It's good to see that the third-year player won't have many issues heading into the offseason and Monahan is primed for a solid next couple of seasons fantasy-wise after back-to-back 60-point campaigns.

Monahan sustained an upper-body injury in Saturday's game against the Wild and will not return.
EDGE Analysis
It's an unfortunate ending to an impressive campaign for Monahan, who deposited 27 goals and 36 assists in 80 games, with 20 of those points taking place on the man advantage. It's worth noting that Monahan produced one goal and six assists between March 28 and April 7; that's pretty much prime time for helping folks to fantasy titles. If you want to get Monahan in snake drafts next year, you'd better not be late because he's bound to go very early.
