P.A. Parenteau scored his fifth and sixth goals of the young season to help the Colorado Avalanche beat the Flames 6-3 in Calgary Thursday night. Parenteau, however, was the only two-goal scorer for Colorado. There were two others -- Paul Stastny with his first two of the season and John Mitchell with his third and fourth. Matt Duchene also picked up two points for the Avs with two assists. The game was tied 3-3 until the third period. Colorado scored three goals with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, including an empty-netter by Parenteau.

P.A. Parenteau scored his third goal of the season as he and the Colorado Avalanche fell 4-1 to the Oilers in Edmonton Monday night. Matt Duchene picked up his third assist of the season for the Avs.

P. A. Parenteau scored his first goal with the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Parenteau inked a four-year/$16 million contract with the Avalanche over the summer after two strong seasons with the New York Islanders. There's some that are concerned that his success was directly tied to John Tavares and he'll consequently regress now that they're separated. We aren't too concerned about that and think he should still end up with 35-40 points in the shortened season.

Newly-acquired winger P.A. Parenteau skated on the Avalanche's top line in the team's first scrimmage Sunday. Parenteau was teamed with offensive dynamos Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog for the team's first session, a unit that's expected to at least begin the season together, though their ability to remain together will be wholly dependant on their performance. If nothing else, this is confirmation that Colorado coach Joe Sacco intends to use Parenteau in a scoring capacity.

With the lockout finally over, P. A. Parenteau might get put on a line with Matt Duchene. "I signed here because I knew there were a lot of good forwards and an opportunity to play with great players. I'll play with whoever they want me to play," Parenteau said. "I think I'd be a good match with Dutchy, for sure. I don't think he had the season he wanted last year, with all the injuries. But he looks pretty good out there, looks ready to go." Many suspect that Parenteau's success in recent years is due to him playing alongside John Tavares. While that certainly didn't hurt, Parenteau should get plenty of opportunities in Colorado and we don't expect him to suffer a significant drop in production.

P.A. Parenteau spend plenty of time in the minors before finally getting a chance to play in the NHL. The 29-year-old winger had played only five NHL games before the Rangers gave him his first shot in the 2009-10 season. He played 22 games for New York scoring three times and adding five assists but the Rangers did not offer enough money, making him a UFA after the season. He signed on with the Islanders and thrived during his two seasons on Long Island scoring 38 times in 161 games but picking up 82 assists. He signed a four-year/$16 million contract this past week with the Avalanche and expect him to be a top-six forward next season. "I wouldn't trade all those years of struggle for anything," Parenteau said. "It taught me so much about hard work and belief in yourself," he said. "That will never leave me." He should get 20 goals and 60-65 points next season so draft him accordingly.

The Colorado Avalanche didn't buy into the theory that P. A. Parenteau impressive numbers in 2011-12 were due primarily to playing with John Tavares. Parenteau inked a four-year/$16 million deal with Colorado. "This was not, in our mind, a scenario where it was a 'one-off.' He put up points the year before as well, and there's no doubt he brings skill to the team in a position that we felt we needed to target," Avalanche GM Greg Sherman said. Parenteau is likely to play alongside Matt Duchene and we don't expect a major drop off in production from Parenteau. If nothing else, he should surpass the 50-point mark for the third straight season.

P. A. Parenteau has agreed to a four-year/$16 million deal with the Colorado Avalanche. Parenteau had 18 goals and 67 points in 80 games in 2011-12. There's some that fear that he'll regress without John Tavares, but we think he'll easily surpass the 50-point mark if he stays healthy. Parenteau should get plenty of playing time with the man advantage and on one of the Avalanche's top two lines.

P.A. Parenteau is projected to draw interest from several clubs when he hits free agency on Sunday, including the Ottawa Senators. Pierre Dorion, who is the Senators' director of player personnel, suggested Wednesday that the Senators would be interested in signing Parenteau if he was available on July 1 and it looks like that will be the case. Ottawa wants to add some depth on the wing with the possible retirement of Daniel Alfredsson looming over their heads, so a signing like Parenteau would seemingly be a good fit. He posted a career-high 67 points in 80 games last season with the New York Islanders.

According to Newsday's Arthur Staple, there hasn't been anything new to report in contract talks with pending unrestricted free agent P.A. Parenteau so it's likely that he will test the market on July 1. He enjoyed a spectacular year in 2011-12 with 18 goals and 49 assists in 80 games, so within a thin free agent crop this summer, he is a good position to cash in with another club.
